From past Albion performances, can you give an example of a 10?
Bryan Wade V Newcastle

BTW, This deserves a thread of its own.
Although the RDZ OUT/ are we entitled? threads should of course take priority.

Just watched it. The ball to Gross was excellent as was the cross in the second half which was scrambled for a corner, but two minutes earlier when better placed and more time, he hit a terrible ball - which doesn’t get shown.

I do feel I’m right with my match rating (7/10), he was good in places, but wasteful in others, which of course they don’t show during analysis.

He also dithered in their offside goal, but it was offside so didn’t matter.
It's a minor quibble but I think all of the good stuff he did warrants an 8. But you're right on his wastefulness, and also to point to his role in their disallowed goal -- Pascal absolutely slaughtered him afterwards.

I thought Veltman was motm.

He does tend to be the spare man when we move with possession up the pitch. I think this is partly because the opposition see him as the least threatening - he’s not gonna burst beyond someone for pace or play a defence splitting pass, but he will pretty much always pick a steady, intelligent option. He’s very predictable in what he does, but he does it very well.

Before the game I was very apprehensive - but for once we looked pretty solid and looked like a team with intent a complete difference to the team that played Bournemouth.

On another day (certainly a day before AFCON) Adingra gets 2 or 3 goals , he just needs to be a bit more calm. I think being a stand out player at that competition has put pressure on him to perform and he is overthinking/panicking.

Spot on.
Our defence is always better with Joel in the team. & the right side generally, I reckon

Yeah fair enough, he certainly wasn’t perfect. But I’d say a 7/10 is a pretty average/standard/expected performance and he was better than that

Whoscored.com would agree

6/10 is the industry standard for average.
Both halves out of 5.

I agree he was better than average.

As for whoscored.com - no thank you.
Sorry @dazzer6666

…yet it has most of the team around or slightly above 6 …and is broadly consistent with most other independent published ratings
I don’t look at other ratings.

The Argus has our players significantly higher, but we really weren’t that good.

As for Pedro scoring higher than Veltman and Webster especially, there’s not a lot more to say…… it really is all opinions. 😃

Outfits like whoscored are less opinions and more data-led…….which has it’s own limitations

On Adingra, I’ll always cut some slack for a young (and still fairly raw) winger if they’re as heavily involved as he was yesterday - got on the ball in promising attacking positions way more than any other player on the pitch which suggests he did a fair bit right, and is half the battle. Decision making and end product will come with age - a mixed bag at his stage of development is to be expected.

Chandlers Ford
Bart 6 -- not much to do
Veltman 8 JMotM -- he was brilliant defensively today
Webster 8 JMotM -- snuffed Watkins out
Dunk 7.5 -- some great long balls today, read the game well
Igor 7 -- solid
Gilmour 7 -- kept things ticking over; his corners were good
Gross 7
Buonanotte 6 -- good at pressing but didn't do much with the ball
Adingra 8 JMotM -- had Konsa on toast, so many openings came down that side courtesy of him
Joao Pedro 7 -- some really good stuff in there
Welbeck 6

Subs:
Enciso 8 -- his best performance since returning from injury
the rest n/a
These are a good ratings.

I agree with all of them, bar Welbeck who I'm giving a 5 - thought he was lazy / poor, and Igor for whom I think a 7 is pretty generous. 6 for him.

I’d give Webster a 7 too

Webster 8 JMotM -- snuffed Watkins out
Webster 8 - I know he made a few small mistakes but stood out to me because of his major improvement, after all the criticism.

I’d give Webster 9

Webster - 8
Webster - 8 MOTM Still gets vilified for the occasional misplaced pass, but others did the same and don't get the same stick. 27 appearances in our stunning season last year is enough for
Really delighted to see these, btw.

I thought he was excellent, and pleased to see (nearly) everyone recognising that.

These could be way off, as frankly, I'm drunk. But here goes...
Bart 6 not much to do, slightly nervous kicking?
Igor 6 up & down
Dunk 7
Webster 6.5
Veltman 8.5 fit again, proper Joel
Gilmour 7
Gross 6
Buonanotte 6.5
Adingra 6.5
Pedro 7
Welbeck 7.5

Enciso 8 woke us up
Moder 6
Barco 7
Baleba 6

RDZ 7
Barco deserves a 10 just for nutmegging Matty Cash.

I said in the Veltman thread that I though the defence was superb as a whole. Vetlman was his usual excellent and consistent self, Webster was that elegant defender we know he can be, Dunk was....well Dunk and Igor did a good job and also got forward and played some excellent through balls.

And the dramatic “he killed me” crash to the ground when Cash left a foot dangling

I don’t normally approve of things like that but as it was against Villa…..
