MK DONS 4 BRIGHTON & HA 1

The MK Dons hammered home four goals to score a superb victory against one of the favourites for this season's League One title :lolol: :lolol: :lolol: :lolol: - and stake an early claim for League Two promotion.

Strikes from Clive Platt, Izale McLeod and a double from triallist Lloyd Dyer saw off a strong Brighton side and sent out a clear message to the Dons opponents in the season ahead.

After a tight start the first chance of the match fell to the visitors on 16 minutes but trialist goalkeeper Adolfo Baines was more than a match for Jake Robinson's well-struck shot.

Less than a minute later and Gary Smith came close for the Dons as he profited from good work by Platt and Scott Taylor, only to fire his shot from ten yards at the legs of Henderson.

On the half hour mark, the Dons came within a whisker of scoring when Jon-Paul McGovern stepped up to take a free-kick after Aaron Wilbraham was fouled 20 yards from goal. The former Sheffield Wednesday winger's powerful shot beat Henderson with ease, but thundered back off the crossbar.

With the visitors rattled, the Dons capitalised to take the lead with 33 minutes played. A lofted ball forward from Dean Lewington found the clever run of Platt who delicately lifted the ball over the on-rushing Henderson from a tight angle and into the net.

After such a bright and positive start the half, no-one could argue that Martin Allen's side deserved the lead, one which they held comfortably up to the break.

It took just 5 minutes from the re-start for the Dons to double their lead thanks to the on-trial Dyer, who had come on as a half-time substitute. He raced onto a neat through ball from McLeod and hurdled a defender before slotting the ball home cooly past Brighton's replacement 'keeper Michel Kuipers.

Six minutes later and it was McLeod himself who made the score three. The Dons striker beat the visitors' offside trap to collect a pass from Platt, giving him enough time to bury the ball past Kuipers with ease.

Three became four after 66 minutes, when Dyer capped an impressive trial performance with his second of the night. After a foul on McLeod, the former West Brom winger curled a beautiful free kick into the top left hand corner of the net with the despairing Kuipers stranded.

As the game entered the last five minutes, Brighton claimed their consolation goal goal through Paul Reid. The left back carried the ball forward before finding enough space from 20 yards to lash the ball into the bottom right corner of the Dons net.

However, the Dons rallied and kept the visitors out for the remainder of the game to claim their first home win of the pre-season - and an impressive one at that against a side from the Championship last season.

Martin Allen will surely be very pleased with his side's work tonight and with just over a week until the big kick-off, there are many reason to be cheerful.

They might be just taking it easy and not wanting to risk any more injuries before the season starts. I'm sure MM will pick a stronger side come next week.

He couldn't pick a stronger side than that, this was meant to be the final prepatation for the start of the season.

Apologies - I didn't see our line up when I posted. Hopefully there's still time to sign 5 or 6 new players before next week.

That was a strong side we had out........

It was the strongest side we had available. At least it doesn't give the coaching staff any false hopes that we don't need at least a few more new faces, especially in defence.
It seems Mocquet was nowhere to be seen this evening...

We should be snapping up proven league 1 players who are out of contract. Not f***ing around with wanky trailists. To late now AGAIN

I assumed he'd made his mind up about Brittain and decided not to play him tonight.

Hopefully tonight will serve as a wake up to all concerned. The players will know they have to do better, and McGhee etc will have to work even harder to get more players in, and get what we've got working as a unit better.

Obviously I'll be amazed if anything happens before next week.
