looking for info on the '73 friendly, came across these 2 photos in the charlton programme

anyone know the score & gate? looks a healthy crowd from the photos

we played pompey a week later, anyone know the info on that game too?
If memory serves me well we played pompey at home on Easter Monday '73. We were virtually relegated back to Div.3 by then. The score was 2-2. Big ruck in the Cliftonville before the game, I know only too well I'd just bought a round (6 pints) when a bloke landed on our table sending the whole lot all over me! He did say sorry.
Don't remember the away fixture (Fratton Park).
For our home (Pompey) game I'm sure Tony Towner and Steve Piper were playing.

I am not disputing the actual date but I was fairly certain that Robin Friday played for Reading in that game and he was there from 72=76 perhaps I am wrong on both and he didn't play.

That is my recollection of events. Prior to then our arch rivals were Portsmouth and going back to the 50s Millwall. I remember one occasion probably mid to late 70s when there was a ruck at Elm Park when we were locked in and a burger shed was turned over may even have been early 80s, time just flies by now but I am sure somebody will remember it accurately.
You're older than me (no offence!), so where would you rate Bournemouth? When I first started going to Brighton games (mid/late 1960s) it was always Bournemouth who my friends considered to be the 'big' rivals - maybe because we were in the same division.

Bournemouth Boxing Day 1971, now that was epic on and off the pitch. First time i ever saw the girlies have a dig at each other, absolutely classic. Regaining North at about 2.45pm, \no segregation in those days. 30,659 attendance and a 2-0 win. Bournemouth had a brand new state of the art coach which was smashed up.

I think Bournemouth were rivals that season (71/72) because they were seen as favourites to go up with Villa. Our late run put paid to that! I also seem to remember they had Ted MacDougall and Phil Boyer getting shedloads of goals. John Bond was their manager.

I don't recollect them being close rivals before that. In fact, there was a lot of aggro with Luton in 69/70. Did'nt the police make everyone wearing Doc.Martens take them off before going in? The Old Shoreham Road looked like Freeman Hardy Willis! Correct me if I'm wrong.

Anyone remember the long march that we did after beating palace up there? I think we'd won 2-0, but cant remember, probably mid 80"s. We seemed to walk for miles with a police escort, palace were nowhere to be found!!

I remember that march and it was on a Bank Holiday Monday in 86.
The Scum beat us 2-0.

I never really considered Bournemouth & Boscombe as they were then as big rivals but do remember playing them down there and there was an invasion from our end (had to edit this as my 18 month old granddaughter jumped on the laptop) and my father in law was confined to bed and saw it on the news and when we got home said about the invasion and said " I would birch the lot of them out in the centre circle that would stop it". I didn't have the heart to tell him his pride and joy of a grandson was one of the first on the pitch.

I remember that well. Saw quite a few blokes with bloody bandages on their heads, holding hankies to bloody noses and to cut lips and that was just the brighton lot. We never retook all of the North Stand, Bournemouth still held the bit next to the chicken run if my memory serves me well. It was a bit nawty after the game as well but I didn`t stay too long as I had to do my paper round (had to earn money somehow). Bournemouth coaches were at Hove Greyhound stadium and most had windows broken so I was told.
