Albion -v- Latics The OFFICIAL STICKY Thread - for everything you have to say

Leon spent all game on the left wing and was pretty much our only creative outlet, unfortunatley this meant he couldn't be on the end of his good work!

Thought Harty played better than he has recently. We really missed Carpenter, just shows that the you don't realise how vital the quiet effective players are until they are not there.

Roberts only did one dodgy kick to the opposition all game, and made 3 excellent saves:clap:

Poor performance overall, looks like midtable obscurity if this continues.

Come on lads, lets see a bit of fight at QPR.

Maybe not our worst performance of the season, but for me it was the most frustrating. I came away from Withdean wishing I'd gone to Worthings FA trophy game. NEVER in my Albion watching life have I ever come away thinking that. Watching the Albion at present is no fun whatsoever, it's a painful experence at times. It was a dour disjointed performance against a team, that whenever you hear their name mentioned, conjures the image, "boring". Oldham has such a depressing image, even one of their stations is named after a disease. They came for a point and will be happy. Our build up wasn't helped by injury to Piercy and carpenter being suspended. I stuggled to work out what formation we were playing today? It's almost as if McGee is still experimenting to find his ideal formation? Knight seemed to be playing very wide and was getting in some good crosses at times. Alas, not once did we have anyone to get on the end of them! :shootself Roberts must take the credit for actually earning us a point with a couple of top class saves. He was on the verge of a Coco moment once, but he resisted. Until we have somebody in midfield to take over the Brooker role, then the midfield will struggle. Yeates worked his socks off, but was up against the brick wall of Oldhams defence every time.

Ah well, roll on next week. Only my second away game this season. The omens aren't good.......

The Oldham defence seemed to visibly relax when they realised they were in for an easy day at the office. The Albion looked clapped-out and in no fit state to be challenging for the play-offs. It's going to take a serious bit of magic from somewhere to turn this season around. Mind you, our new winger, one L. Knight, looks a bit useful.

A poor game.

Roberts gets MOM for those saves.

McGhee screwed up again (after leaving Leon on the bench at Swindon) by not playing anyone wide left from the start. Maybe Harding should have started?

Butters and Danny had a pretty good game. Kerry had a good first half, then faded.

Rehman proved once again what a waste of space he is .... was ... thank god he's gone!

Yeats showed some real class, but probably frustrated by the lack of awareness of his team-mates.

Probably Leon's poorest game in an Albion shirt.

Another McGhee mistake to take off McPhee. Marney and Knight up front is just plain stupid. Where's the height? At least McPhee can hold the ball up and is getting better in the air as he gains experience.

Where to now? Mid table the way we're playing. And we'll be crushed by QPR and Plymouth unless there's a big big improvement.

It's better than what we were watching just 4 seasons ago. I f***ing hate it when people allways go on moaning. What a shame. It's bad football. What do you expect from a Division 2 club? You won't get good football. Everyone at the club is trying. It's their livelyhoods. It was no worse than Southampton Vs Leicester on Wednesday. No matter how could you are it is very difficult to play well when the other teams only concern is to stop you playing and sit behind the ball. Now flame away at me for never criticising. I don't care. I just wish more people would support the team and encourage them. Oh bugger. I've gone and burent the pizza now. Forgot the time in my rage.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH MID TABLE? We have no divine right to go up. We're not good enough. End of. Stop bloody whinging and be happy we're mid table. Just imagine it 5 years ago. Mid table division 2, a new stadium very close. People NEVER appriciate what they have. How many people whinged at Brooker but would love him back now?

An indifferent performance really. Some of the best crosses I've seen all season, but nobody on the end of them (Bobby would have had a field day).

I was dissapointed to hear the racist chanting from some of the Oldham fans at the start of the game, but at least it was only the once. I hope Oldham are able to sort that kind of thing out, although I appreciate it'll be difficult given the town's recent history.

Turkey - I agree that mid table would be OK in theory, but the level of performance this season has been woeful on too many occasions.

The problem I fear is that if there is'nt a bit more togetherness in our play, people will start to stay away - and we need every bum on a seat to support our drive for Falmer.

I thought the crowd was awful today - just over 6,000 !
Two years ago you could'nt get a ticket for love nor money - and yet now they practically can't give them away.

I'm ultimately concerned though with our overall performances this season - these players havent become bad players overnight so why have we got such a poor record since McGhee took over ?

Too many hopeful punts upfield for my liking - where are the great passing moves that we saw 2 years ago - we did'nt play the long ball game then.

I fear for next weekend.......
The word Mullar springs to mind, and I'm not talking about the yoghurt.

Btw the amount of people buying tickets for Withdean has no bearing at all on whether we get Falmer or not.
The planning permission has been given. The public inquiry is finished. Yes or no decision will arrive soon and is dependant on whether we ruin a beautiful?? village with our abomination of a stadium :lolol: :lolol: not bums on seat ;) :p

Obviously can't comment on the performance (!) but what is concerning is that this was a game that, on paper at least, we should have taken 3 points from before 3 very tough games. We've now got QPR away, Barnsley at home and Plymouth at home. All three are above us and two of them are going to go up automatically. Can anyone really say that we'll get more than 1 point from our next three games, tops? That would probably leave us slumped around 10th.

Two of those games are at home, where our defensive record is still very good if you take out the Bristol blip. We can always nick a goal when Leon is on the pitch so two wins from these games is a realistic target.

It will depend, as ever, on getting the midfield dilemma sorted and McGhee will have learned a few things from the problems today about what certainly doesn't work.

Chippy back with Yeates in the centre of things, Hart and Piercy on the flanks and we will be a much better proposition than today. We will be very competitive in all those 3 games you mention.

I hope you're right as they'll probably be the only 2 games I see this season! I certainly respect your optimism.

I think I only count as an optimist if compared with others on here, but I'm not sure I want to be defined by the opinions of the "our-season-is-over" doom-mongers. The players I've talked about coming into our midfield are tried-and-tested performers who've got us into fifth this season, that's what I'm judging it on. I'll be sorry to see Yeates go because he's a rare talent who I'm looking forward to seeing wear the Green shirt in a few years, but we got plenty of points before he arrived and we'll do the same when he goes :drink:

The f*cking muppet choir were there then.

doesnt matter if it's once or all through the game.

They were at it at Colchester this season and the police and latics said they'd do everything they could to point them out.

have they 'eck like.

It's not hard to spot them, everyone whp goes latics home games could point the lot of them out.

The sad thing is they've done it for years at away games, it's virtually stopped at Boundary Park now and Latics seem to have adopted as long as it's not at BP it's orite saying.:shootself

Dunno how the retards can call themselves Oldham fans. Racist chants when the best player on the pitch is Jermaine Johnson?
Hope our wonderful Sussex constabulary who are so keen on taking home videos of law-abiding Albion fans got them on film and will pass it on to their colleagues at Oldham. Like you say, it's not like they're hard to spot. Especially yesterday.

Oldham came for exaxtly what they wanted. A well earned point, whilst we basically lost two.

What was frustrating, that in a fairly combative game, wasthe referee. I thoght there could have been an extra five mins at least of extra time.

Anyway. A game over. Let's all go to QPR on Saturday and get three points.

I was in my usual seat in G block yesterday and was struck by the fact that nobody around me seemed to be getting behind the team much, whereas in other weeks a lot of the folks the in block have been very vocal. There was almost an air of resignation and a general sense that the team were doing their best but weren't up to the job of getting 3 points. I've felt it before this season but yesterday it seemed to be more marked. The number of empty seats was also striking. I don't know what to put all this down to but something has changed since McGhee took over.........and it's not for the better.

It is most obvious that we are desperatly short of the players that are needed to progress. Most people have been saying all season that we need a midfield brain and a target man. We looked completely lost without Carpenter in midfield.
Can somebody explain to me what it is that every manager sees in Charlie Oatway as they have all picked him. Or is it the influence of the backroom staff.

I feel that we need to muddle through this season, even doing that a play off place is not impossible, and then there has got to be a major clearout during the summer a la Adams. Oh sorry can't do that Dick Knight gave a lot of contracts out to players who will obviously not volunteer to go. Do we have the money to sign a free transfger and pay his wages?

I must say that unfortunately going to the games this season has fast become a duty rather than a pleasure. On the Monday I am thinking god, Brighton are at home this Saturday !. That can't be right.

I had the opportunity to offload the tickets Saturday and go for a drink with my mates and was tempted.

I suppose we have been priviledged that for 4 years we have had a feast of excellent and exciting football which makes this seasons dour fest even more difficult to endure.

Yep. Oldham are so boring that we've scored as many goals as Brighton. In fact, there are have been more goals scored in games involving Oldham this season than any other team except Plymouth.

We've managed to keep 4 clean sheets all season, so Brighton really ought to be hanging their heads in shame.

I remember after the farcical first game of the season when Brighton fans insisted they were a good team and were going up. Oldham were also going to be so far adrift at the bottom of the table that everyone was beating them. Not much of that any more is there?

By all account, we deserved at least a point and I reckon that if we'd had Leon Knight all season rather than you, our league positions would be reversed.
