How would i know?I'm pissed.
My mate John Haynes got his face all bloodied when it kicked off in the North West corner....he tried to jump over a wall to escape the aggro and his flares got caught on the barbed wire.........serves him right i say, i mean, flares ffs.

I remember watching in the South Stand thinking 'Oh my god are we going to get any points this season?' We were so outclassed and even after that game we struggled to find our feet as we seemed destined for immediate relegation. That was until that memorable day at Forest when Gerry Ryan slipped the ball past Peter Shilton . The ball seemed to take for ever to bobble into the net but it did and we won 1-0 and that turned our season around:ascarf:

What a day....that was fairly near the start ..it stopped inside the goal without touching the net and we seem to be holding on forever..John Robertson missed a penalty for them that day and it ended their unbeaten home run of about 50 odd games ..Brighton were 9-1 that day..;):clap2:

I went with an Arsenal supporting mate and went in the NW corner. I remember having to get into the ground seriously early. For the first ten minutes or so we gave their goal quite an onslaught. However, once they settled down we were never in it.

I don't think it was all ticket and many were put off by the fear of trouble (rife in those days) or the thought that they would not get in as bound to sell out. The consequence was that many arrived at 1.00pm and the actual crowd was just over 26,000.

Albion did start well but Arsenal, FA Cup holders, were different class and would shoot from outside the area whereas we tried to walk the ball in (some things never change).

The shooting power of Arsenal was awesome and Liam Brady was at his best.

Was that the evening match when it really badly kicked off.
If it was, I have no memory of the game, other than the bloke standing on my head as he vaulted the fence.

Remember the game and also afterwards when we were with some friends who didn't know I'd been to see it - one of them said "see Brighton lost 4-0 - pity anyone with a season ticket!", then was highly embarrassed when I showed him mine! Still it did get better after that.

NO, that was a league cup game that finished 0-0. We lost the replay 4-0 in just about one of the most inept performances I've ever seen from an Albion team, and I've seen a few.

Who could have thought that, just a few days later, we would be ending a 50+ unbeaten home rum of European Champions Nottm Forest?

All round a bit of an anti climax and a feeling of being amongst the big boys, disappointing crowd because the Argus had put the fear factor in, though as the old bill made the Arsenal fans take their laces out of their boots not too much concern there. I was in the South stand and pop pop pop, every time they had a chance they scored, and as we were so used to winning at home and having great support home and away felt like the new kid at school. Didnt really come to grips with Div 1 until Xmas with 3/4 wins on the trot

A load of Arsenal came down on the Friday night and were naughty down West Street. The policemen locked them in the subway at the bottom of west street that goes out to the beach over night. I have heard (and I dont know if its true) that some Brighton naughty boys got themselves locked in there with them and started being naughty again.
