Well yes, you'd hope the Albion know what they're doing! I thought they'd said he was recalled with a view to another loan elsewhereso hopefully someone's checked the ruke book! - but I also thought I remembered a discussion about Sima, and whether if we recalled him from Stoke we could play him nx the U23s. Maybe I remembered that wrong.

I think that was more about we couldn’t recall him for the first team there was no mention of U23s as far as I can remember. He could play U23s if we brought him back but surely it makes more sense to keep him playing senior football to help his development.

I’ve been looking to see if it’s happened before and the only example I can find is Christian Walton who was on loan to Bury at the start of the 15-16 season, he got injured and the loan was ended. He then played for the U21s as part of his recovery (this was just before the restructure to U23s and U18s). He then moved on loan to Plymouth before finishing the season playing for the youth team again. The rules around loans were slightly different back then as the one month and three month loan deals still existed, but he definitely appeared for 2 teams and our youth team that season and the two club rule predates that.

Good research. Cheers!

I asked Naylor earlier, U23 counts towards 2 club rule so he’s going nowhere!

Maybe the rules have changed over how they class youth football but there are other ways around it. Players can move to and play for a third club in a country where the start of the season overlaps the end of ours, so the MLS for example where the season starts in February. We used this rule to send Jurgen Locadia to FC Cincinnati after he'd already played for us in the Premier League and Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga in the 19-20 season.

Not sure Scotland qualifies then! Guess we'll have to wait and see where he is on 1st. February!

1st Feb doesn’t necessarily matter as a move to the MLS can happen later. The transfer window only needs to be open for the club signing the player.

I know the MLS is improving, but I can't see a loan there being very beneficial for young Dendoncker - EFL I would have thought and hoped.

Thought he looked vey good last night, BTW, dominant in defence, sharp in the tackle and happy to advance to join attacks too. Certainly a lot better than he looked against Celtic in his last match 'oop north'.

I’m just using MLS as an example, any league than doesn’t run the same schedule as the majority of European leagues would be an option.

I've thought the same about Sima (if recalled/sent home) as he is allowed to play for three clubs if one of the clubs is playing in a calender year league.

Hmm ..... I've no idea when other leagues (presumably those outside Europe) start and finish, but I wouldn't have thoight the Aussie leagues, Africa or the J-League would be great options either.

Norway and Sweden would be options if I’m correct in thinking their seasons start in March/April. Brazil, China, Japan and South Korea too. Plus a whole host of minor leagues including the likes of Singapore and Laos. The quality of the leagues obviously vary massively so a lot wouldn’t be considered suitable. Although he was playing in Scotland so who knows…

Australia wouldn’t be an option as their season runs October to May which means it doesn’t overlap ours.

I think Norway or Sweden would probably be the most realistic choices (however not particularly likely, think he'll probably stay with Stoke).

The club's already stated that the plan for Sima is to stay at Stoke.

Yup and it will likely be that way. But if Stoke says "we dont want this bloke" I'm not sure Brighton would force them as it wouldnt be good for anyone.

True. Anyway, it was Dendoncker's future prospects after playing for the U23s that we were querying.
