the fact that Dunk is valued at 15-20 million shows that most of this is garbage , even a VERY conservative estimate would put that at £30 million. I am assuming that Villas squad is high because of Grealish ...

You’re probably right but it’s worth noting that Dunk will be a few months off 29 during the next transfer window. He’ll have no resale value if he were to go to another club. Maguire is about a year and half younger than Dunk having just turned 27 this month. He signed to Man U aged 26.

What is it about then? Is it about their value to Queen Elizabeth or Donald Duck? Brighton own these contracts and decide the value of the players. If Tony Bloom says "Lewis Dunk would cost you £100m", then thats the value regardless of what others think - its the "objective value", subjectively chosen by Bloom (and staff probably).

The fat guy with glasses and a polo sweater "CIES" have subjectively estimated the value of these players but he is only guessing. If he estimates "Dunk is worth £20m" and Bloom says he is worth £50m, then he is worth £50m.

Not that it really matters atm, football economy could look very different after all of this. These are all pre-corona values. If everything collapses, Lewis Dunk could be worth two water bottles, or £1000000000000m if we go into hyper-inflation.

"Its the "objective value", subjectively chosen by Bloom"? Come on. It's not objective if the basis is subjective.

No, it's about the value that the CIES site has set to the players based on their algorithm in this instance as, you know, that's the basis for the entire thread. Will we sell Dunk for the value they set? Of course not, but it influences who buys them. If Dunk is worth £20m, we won't sell for less than £50m, but the buying club knows he's only worth £20m - Likelihood is, he stays with us as he did last summer.

Whether you like to admit it or not, players have real world values and how much they'll actually sell for. CIES have just done an exercise estimating how much a player is worth based on various factors and that's what's given the numbers you saw earlier, what they can't do it look at each player and have a guess about how valuable they are to the selling club.

But yes, to your point, no one is worth anything if nobody is playing football!

But to counter that argument

Maguire is proper shitehouse - Dunk isn't.

It’s €256,000,000 if you don’t include Webster in the calculation
