ALBION SIGN MAN CITY AND ENGLAND STARLET

(once wanted by Inter, according to The Sun - yes, I know ...)

Brighton & Hove Albion have completed the signing of England 18-year-old attacking midfielder Taylor Richards from Manchester City on undisclosed terms.

Technical director Dan Ashworth said, “Taylor is an exciting young talent. He has already played for England at junior levels and pre-season will be a great opportunity for us to see his ability at first hand.

“He is keen to play senior football, so that is the first challenge for him – alongside the other group of younger players – with a longer-term aim to continue the progress he has already made with Manchester City.”

Londoner Richards began his professional career with Manchester City, and has also won three caps for England at under-17 level.

He started with City at under-18 level, and last season broke through as a regular in Paul Harsley’s under-23 squad, making 15 appearances in the Premier League 2, 5 in the UEFA Youth League and 4 appearances in the EFL Trophy – helping City to the quarter-finals.

Richards’ season stats – which also included matches in the FA Youth Cup – were an impressive 10 goals in 29 appearances across all competition

We have signed Taylor Richards from Manchester City on undisclosed terms is that a normal use of words don't they usually say undisclosed fee, is this an indication we have not paid for his services but he's in fact on loan?

According to The S*n

Richards, an attacking midfielder with an eye for goal, met with Albion technical director Dan Ashworth before signing a two-year deal at the Amex Stadium.

Ashworth played a key role in Richards’ decision to sign for Brighton.

The youngster from Ealing believes the Seagulls will give him a greater chance of progressing into first-team football and the Premier League.

Brighton will pay an initial fee of £1m with add-ons taking the deal to £2.5m.

Encouraging, he seems to be one of the better City youth players too - started regularly in their U23s last season at 18, so we're not picking up one of those cast offs. Is this a symptom of youth players at big clubs not being able to see themselves breaking through to the first team there? This thread is worth a quick read - slightly mixed opinions https://forums.bluemoon-mcfc.co.uk/threads/taylor-richards.337259/

Another central midfielder as well for the yoof. Does this mean we have loans lined up for Alzate/Baluta/Sanders/Molumby or are we finally integrating some of these lads into the first team?

I do like how the tone of that thread started out saying what a prospect he was, then he was linked with a move away and he was not good enough!
