They are referring to attendances prior to promotion to the Premier League when we spent 6 years in the Championship and the average attendance grew as the stadium was expanded. Although there would probably be a drop off if we got relegated it wouldn’t be huge and most would be back as soon as we were showing signs of being at the top end of the Championship and there was a real chance of PL football again.

Hopefully not but if we were to be playing championship football next season , as long as we were doing well and in with a shout for promotion, I would expect the crowds to be 25,000 - 27,000 .

Hopefully this will not need to be tested !

Fulham I agree are playing much better since their Jan acquisitions but Newcastle are still a poor side and even more so with the 3 key players they have missing . I think they will be the team most likely to go down .

The Reading area conurbation has a population of 318,000.

Littlehampton to Brighton 612,000, before adding Burgess Hill, Haywards Heath, Lewes, Peacehaven, Newhaven, Seaford, Hailsham, Polegate and Eastbourne. The Albion has a huge catchment.

The Madejski initial investment era may be the higher water mark for Reading. In 2018/19 their average prettendance had fallen to 15,000, our low point in ‘the Danny Holla season’ 25,600.

Wo Wo Wo..............you've quoted eleven towns and one city as a captive area as oppose to one in Reading ? Why ? I live in Dorset and am a sth, who's to say that Reading don't have supporters out of the area ? Come to that , our friends further west down the coast ?

So am I right in saying all the new seats except the north shelf & north east box are currently in?

Any time scale on the shelf & box being completed?

I didn’t. I included Wokingham.

Compared to Littlehampton to Brighton.

Both contiguous conurbations, the latter has twice the population.

Then Brighton is surrounded by other towns (listed) within easy access of The Amex, with loads of Albion supporters (as borne out on NSC). Burgess Hill, Newhaven and Seaford just to mention three.

Whilst near Reading, they only have Bracknell.

Is Slough a Reading FC heartland, or do football folk there support London clubs?

Yes, capacity will be 31,800 for the next home match (restrictions allowing).

Any time scale on the shelf & box being completed?

‘Short to medium term’ is the only timescale I can find. My guess is that Premier League football will need to be confirmed first. We won’t need those extra 700 1901 seats & facilities otherwise.

I think Newcastle hold the record at over 52k about 5 years ago but that might have just been a record under the championship branding. I would have thought it would have been higher back in the day

The Albion has by all accounts the biggest draw of potential fans for ANY club based on the number of people living closest to our ground at well over 1m.

People will always come if we’re playing entertaining football and challenging for promotion or play offs the division is irrelevant.

The reason we haven’t had consistently high attendances is probably simple there are too many other nice distractions around in god’s own country and in general our demographic is slightly wealthier and can therefore indulge in other activities that means football isn’t the number one draw like it is in other areas of the country.

Probably outdated with Crawley now being a league club.

I remember Albion supporters saying that in the 70's and early 80's. In Middlesbrough, Sunderland or Burnley, sorry to pick on them, watching your local professional football club is THE main draw. Whilst in Sussex and London there are many other distractions.

They are going to 32,500 and the previous max was 30,750.
Barber in an interview this week said about 1000 are already in place and (i think) aiming for the rest in pre season.
Confirmed that they are all over the ground - just filling in gaps. No impact on existing sightlines etc.

This should put a dent in the waiting list assuming all of the seats have good vision of the playing area.

Hopefully some of the additional capacity will be used offer more 'one-off' tickets rather than just increase the numbers of STH.
