First season after WW2, up against another promotion season from the 70s. 1945/46 v 1971/72

Oh the memories!

Willie Irvine, Kit Napier, 2-1 win, promotion season, I was at the game with my dad and maybe still have the programme somewhere.

It has to be 1971/72.

Now there's a massive household name from the days of my youth in the 70's which I don't recall seeing for some time!

I'm a sucker for old stuff though, so it's the 40's programme for me. Fresh out of the World War and getting the country back together. Hard but happy times, I'd expect.

71/72 for me, although I do like the Seagulls in the 40's programme - 30 years ahead of its time.

I have all the programmes from the 71/2 season, that's probably why I voted that way.

Are those Telscombe Cliffs?
There was no Football League in 1945-46 so I presume the unofficial north and south leagues were competed for again.

One of the two matches chosen for Match of the Day. Was it the first one shown (when it didn't have to be)?

Alas, MOTD was way past my bed time in those days!
