And on Sunday:-

Abdallah Sima and Senegal travel to Mauritania to play a CAF Group B World Cup qualifier.

Tom McGill and Canada face France in a friendly in Bordeaux. Will he ever play in a senior match ever again?

Valentin Barco and Argentina play Ecuador in a friendly at Soldier Field in Chicago.

Jeremy Sarmiento (who may or may not have ever met his club colleague Barco) and Ecuador face Argentina in the Windy City.

Gilmour. From The Herald.
Billy Gilmour may not have been the man to have brought the house down by finding the net, but make no mistake, he was the star of the show at Hampden. The Brighton midfielder deserves top billing.

He may be diminutive in stature, but in a stodgy first half, he was head and shoulders above everyone else on the field.
He was always available, ready to take the ball whether he was in yards of space to conduct proceedings, or to take the pressure off a teammate who was in a hole. He was all close control, deft flicks and feints, with complete mastery of the ball and an unerring eye for a pass.
One moment brought audible gasps from the crowd as he killed the ball dead and in one movement, flicked it over the head of an opponent before carrying on his way. It was the display of a level of technical ability that we had long thought a thing of the past in a Scottish player.

Do we think Enciso is being rested, or is he just not a starter for Peru?
He has been a consistent starter (for Paraguay) for at least a couple of seasons (when available, of course).

He came on as a 64th minute sub last night. I think he is still regaining full match fitness after his surgery. Even after returning to action for Albion there were reports that he was experiencing discomfort and wasn't always able to train fully (or play 90 minutes).

I'm not a doctor and have no idea whether that is a typical response to the injury, or not. However, I haven't seen anything that would suggest there is a level of concern for him.

Paraguay have two more friendlies this month and then the Copa America, so we'll see how many starts he'll make (and how many minutes he plays in total).

Barco unused sub for Argentina vs. Ecuador today (as was former Albion man Alexis Mac Allister). They missed the chance to come up against Alexis' old team-mate Caicedo, who played the full 90. Jeremy Sarmiento also started for Ecuador - subbed after 78 minutes.

A round-up of the weekend action.

Friday evening:

Julio Enciso came on as a sub on 64 minutes for Paraguay as they drew 0-0 in Lima with Peru in a friendly.

Saturday:

Carlos Baleba is a new internationalist! He started for Cameroon, was booked in the 79th minute and was taken off a minute later as the Indomitable Lions beat Cape Verde 4-1 at home in a CAF Group D World Cup qualifier.

Yasin Ayari was an unused substitute as Sweden were beaten 3-0 at home by Serbia in a friendly.

Sunday:

Abdallah Sima made perhaps the latest entry into an international match by an Albion player when he came on as a substitute in the tenth minute of added on time at the end of the match as Senegal beat Mauritania 1-0 away from home in a CAF Group B World Cup qualifier.

Tom McGill was an unused sub (shock!) for Canada as they managed to draw 0-0 with France in a friendly in Bordeaux.

Jeremy Sarmiento started for Ecuador and played 78 minutes as they lost 1-0 to Argentina at Soldier Field in Chicago in a friendly.

Valentin Barco was an unused substitute by the World Cup winning Argentina as they beat Ecuador 1-0.

Look forward to seeing Verbruggen tonight. I'll be very surprised if he doesn't start and play the whole game.

I was at the game in Rotterdam (albeit in the Iceland end) and Verbruggen looked calm and assured. However, he did make a good save but looked very uncomfortable after (holding his finger/hand).
