I'm very much with the OP on this.

As for Saward, his 1st season he was a bit of a rookie, did not take to the senior players that Goodwin left so very much transitional. 2nd season was his, brilliant, team. 3rd season and he seemed to lose it before the season had started by breaking up his team without replacements. Did eventually bring in some promising youngsters but it was too late then.

The club would be very different now were it not for RUSSELL SLADE. Relegaation that year would mean no Gus, no Spanish flair lords, and probably no Championship football. We'd have starteed life at the Amex in either League 2 or1 and that huge influx of fans would be smaller...we'd most likely end up in the Championship eventually.

For about the first time I agree with all the posters on here. The beauty of football. They all illustrate the achievements over the past 50 odd
years.

Mullery must get real credit for achieving with really entertaining and skillful players. However what if Steve Gritt and the then supporters had
not kept us in the league. We would not be where we are now. Would we be in existence ?

I rated Chris Cattlin once whilst working for the Gov assessing buildings for council tax.

Micky Adams came in, sorted the management behind the scenes out (seemed like a [can't find the word i need] affair). and the team performances followed in my opinion. All the club needed was structure, and it worked!

Steve Gritt for keeping us up when we were dead and buried, had we gone down things "would" be very different it was essential we stayed in the league at that point. legend

............I don't go with Adams at all (sorry all.....cue backlash?) - the 2nd time just proved the first time was more 'luck', than judgement.

I think the first time was less luck, but more a repeat of a previous formula that worked at Fulham. Take your point though.
Cattlin is top of my list. What they did took away from football one of the potentially great mangers of our club. Football's loss is Brighton Rock Industry's gain.

Horton, Adams, Wilkins, Slade and Gus.

Think you've called it best. The point seems to have been woefully missed overall. Who were we sad to see LEAVE? I rated, McGhee, Lloyd, Adams , Slade but with the exception of Adams first time round, wasn't sad when they went because their time to go was clear. Wilkins I was sad to see go, but in hindsight we needed someone else to take us forward, just not Adams mark 2 as it turned out. Horton, Taylor and Coppell for me during the withdean years are the ones who left prematurely and could have done the job that McGhee did so well for so long until it fell apart and then Wilkins and Slade did, keeping us afloat until Bloom and Gus rode to the rescue.

I suppose Mullery was at a time when i loved being in the North stand and we had Forrest over a few times in the FA cup.

Cattlin was definitely number one for me. Was so enthusiastic and bled blue and white. Very entertaining side on the pitch then too. While he was there we were a better than average Div 2 side. The slide began the day he left.

Of course Mullery is also high on the list, Adams first time, Horton during his short tenure and Poyet will be on the list if he can succeed and take us up.

Absolutely detested Barry Lloyd.

Chris Cattlin for me too - inspiring and oozes pride in all things Albion. Anyone attending Thursday's Mullery tribute dinner will have seen (after all these years) what the Albion means to Chris. Tears in his eyes, shafted by a Board that had no backbone - a portent of what was to come, albeit different characters. I so wish the Club could use his passion in some tangible way as it moves forward with Project Premiership.

My hero and always will be - cheers Chris Cattlin.

Absolutely detested Barry Lloyd.

For what reason? Lloyd used all his know how to get us Mike Small, John Byrne etc and take us to the brink of the premiership. He lost the plot afterwards but he was an excellent manager until then. Many other Brighton managers never touched those heights. Much maligned in my view. I'll always be grateful to him for how he almost took us to the promised land again. It was a great time to watch the team.
