I was surprised that the wages seemed so low for somebody working at a Premier League club, but after a quick bit of Google research it seems not only is it inline, it's actually on the higher side.

Indeed, previous incumbents have been absolutely useless in the role.

It's a new role as we clearly haven't had one in the past few years, as has been shown by the lack of 20 goal a season strikers we have signed.
The club has clearly used the World Cup break to peruse NSC and have realised that they should have read it more often in the transfer windows!
