Albion in the Championship next season!

From the BBC

League gets revamp

The Football League has changed the name of Division One to The Championship for next season.
In addition, Divisions Two and Three will be re-titled League One and League Two as part of the rebranding.

League chairman Sir Brian Mawhinney said: "The Championship' is a term steeped in the history of the League.

"Reclaiming it for our leading clubs will place a new enhanced emphasis on its status at the pinnacle of our competition," he added.

Mawhinney added: "Not only is it a gateway to the Premiership, it is one of Europe's leading league competitions, in terms of the standard of football being played, the high quality of stadia and the numbers of supporters attending

Champions League football at Withdean after all then!

Right, no more bitterness from Swhingedon then. They've got what they wanted. They play Bristol City AND they're in League One.

Is this a wind up?

What a load of pretentious shite. I'd think it was one of Simon Jordan's ideas if it weren't for the fact that they are already out of it.

Still, at least Andy King will be able to relax safe in the knowledge that he's got Swindon out of Division Two after all

:lolol:

complete bollocks, why change? its perfectly alright as it is. Now we've gotta say
"yeah we play in the Championship"
"what...Championship Manager 03/04?"
"no the old division one"

CRAP!

Good news for the teams in the bottom division though. They're sounding better by the year....

That'll confuse the statisticians for a while!!

Could it be the case that we are the only team to get relegated from Division Two to Division Two and then get promoted from Division Two directly to The Championship?

So the Premiership used to be Division one, then division one was division one, and now division two is division one! All sounds like a load of old bollox to me.

I think that in order to take advantage of the long illustrious history of football in this country there is intrinsic value in rebranding the professional leagues here. My proposal is as follows:

The Premier League > Division One
The Football League Championship > Division Two
League One > Division Three
League Two > Division Four

Well that's that sorted to everyones satisfaction. £4million consultancy fee please!!
