In August last year I posted this thread -

Albion have had ELEVEN individuals move to Chelsea in 13 months

On July 19 last year it was reported that Albion U-21 left-back Zak Sturge's rumoured move to Chelsea (despite being offered a professional contract by the Seagulls) was finally official. On August 5 another left-back, Player of the Season Marc Cucurella, was sold to the Blues for the astonishing figure of £55million upfront. Just a few days later it was confirmed that U-15 wonderkid Shumaira Mheuka had decided to jump ship.

The following month, of course, Graham Potter and his cronies (Billy Reid, Bjorn Hamberg, Kyle Macaulay, Bruno and Ben Roberts) found it impossible to resist Boehly's billions (to the tune of £21.5million to Albion). One month later, just a few days before the Albion v Chelsea fixture, it emerged that Brighton had given permission for Paul Winstanley to talk to the Pensioners (news that probably did as much as anything to create the rip-roaring atmosphere for that incredible piece of theatre that was Albion 4 - 1 Chelsea).

And now, Big Bad (attitude) Bob has gone over to the Dark Side for £20million upfront. Eleven people across all levels of the club moving from the Seagulls to the Blues in the space of 13 months.

Has there ever been a larger movement of individuals, for so much money, from one club to another for so little effect (for either club)?

Since then, Moises Caicedo moved on for £100million (and counting) and now Sam Jewell is on his way. And Albion are STILL three places and three points above the Blues.

I have a feeling it might be more where others have switched under the radar

I'm confused. If he is replacing Winstanley, have they sacked him off or given a different role?

When will one of the Albion staff actually turn down an offer from Chelsea and tell them to F —- off
Maybe someone has. We would never know if it didn’t reach the media.

Come to think of it, wasn’t Dunk approached and he is still with us.

I guess you only get real club loyalty from footballers these days. :jester:

Good point. Of all the moves between the two clubs in the last 18 months, is this the only success?! And we are, of course, around £175m up, financially.
Tariq Lamptey as well.

At the end of Wednesday's The Guardian Football Weekly podcast, Max Rushden mentioned this latest move from the Seagulls to the Blues with the words (and this is an exact quote):-

...Sam Jewell, the thirteenth Brighton employee leaving for Chelsea in the last nineteen months.

WTF!

I find it hard to believe that the move of Zak Sturge from Albion to Chelsea in July 2022 (or, indeed, the switch of U-15 player Shim Mheuka) would be picked up by even the most fastidious broadsheet journalist, so is a member of the GFW production team a regular on NSC??! Out yourself!

would (and I know this beyond hypothetical) anyone trade Billy Gilmour plus £40m for Caicedo?

I wouldn't.

Or maybe one of us regularly tweets Max , passing off others hard work as their own, and now has almost as many dull contributions on FW as @El Presidente. ;)

Yes, absolutely. Sorry Billy.

(not that it could be possible obviously, given Moises would need to take a (weekly) six-figure pay cut, and because the deal would 100% push Chelsea into FFP penalty territory)
