Albion are up next in the final group match against Newcastle.

Current Group C table:

Newcastle P2 W2 D0 L0 F2 A0 Pts 6
Albion P2 W1 D0 L1 F1 A1 Pts 3
Yau Yee P2 W1 D0 L1 F2 A3 Pts 3
Kashima P2 W1 D0 L2 F2 A3 Pts 3

Albion need at least a draw to qualify for the quarter finals of the Main Cup

How does this work then, top 3 go through?

That was ten or so minutes of my life I will never get back. Absolutely dire and no one got near the opposing penalty area, let alone took a shot!

The most contrived nil nil I’ve ever seen!

In keeping with the premise of playing the same type of football throughout all our age groups (until our new manager comes in, hopefully...)

PortuGull's table was wrong. Both Yau Yee and Kashima had played 3, won 1 and lost 2, giving them 3 points. Albion's bore draw gives them the point they needed to finish second.

There was something quite familiar about the two centre halves playing 20 consecutive passes to each other unchallenged on the half way line,

Apologies for the mistake. Here is the correct final table for Group C:

Newcastle P3 W2 D1 L0 F2 A0 Pts 7
Albion P3 W1 D1 L1 F1 A1 Pts 4
Yau Yee P3 W1 D0 L2 F2 A3 Pts 3
Kashima P3 W1 D0 L2 F2 A3 Pts 3

Top 2 teams in each of the 4 groups go through to QFs of Main Cup event
Bottom 2 teams have their own QFs for the Plate event

I like this tournament, used to go regularly. It’s where I first saw Jack Grealish play, pretty sure AV won it that year.

It’s typically very hot and humid, made worse by the 4G pitch. The format - 7 aside on a full size pitch - means you have to keep the ball and nick a goal. Hope our boys do well and stay out of Wanchai....

A side note regarding tournament rules - Yau Yee and Kashima ended up with identical records in the group table and you would assume a 3rd place for Yau Yee as they beat Kashima 2-1 in their group game. However, the first (unscheduled) match of the afternoon session was a "golden goal" shoot-out between Yau Yee and Kashima to determine 3rd and 4th place (which Yau Yee won anyway).

If Albion had lost to Newcastle by a score of 2-1, all three teams Yau Yee, Kashima, and Albion would have finished on identical records. Can anyone work out how the tournament rules would then have separated them into 2nd, 3rd and 4th places?
