Too far from the sun
As a kid I used to play football for Shoreham Boys Club, coached by Mel Hopkins. For those not old enough to remember, Mel played for the Albion in the 60s (after a few years at Spurs)cand played for Wales at the world cup in Sweden (1958?) where in the quarter finals he was nutmegged by a young Pele as they were beaten by Brazil.

He is now retired and living on Shoreham Beach. I once bumped into him on the terraces at Torquay away. He was on holiday in Devon and heard that the albion were playing and came to watch. We were awful and lost 3-0 on our way to last place but one in div 3. It must have been pretty depressing for someone like him to watch but he never had a bad word to say.

Worthing
I'm related to youth team (and current reserves) player Chris Breach, and his uncle Steve Breach who played for the club many years ago (same era as Steve Piper) before a long and successful career at Crawley.

Steve is my cousin. I've no idea what relation I am to Chris (he's my cousin's son) as I get lost outside my immediate family!

My dad was (allegedly) secretary of the supporters club back in the 50's, too, and was a good friend of Goldstone groundsman Frankie Howard.

I went to the same junior school in north London as Steve Gatting and his tubby lard-arse of an older brother. They were a bit before my time tho'.

Across the pond
The Albion leased my flat in Lancing for Paul Clark when we got him from Southend in 1978. Stayed for a year.
Model tennant by the way, unlike the twat who leased it after him, who either had a shit load of pictures or was a crap dart player.
