Brighton & Hove Albion Collector’s and Historians’ Society stages its seventh annual Albion Collectors’ Fair in the Hospitality Suite at Withdean Stadium on Sunday, 23rd November.

Visitors will be able to browse through thousands of Albion programmes, handbooks, pictures, fanzines and many other items of memorabilia.

Tim Carder, chairman of the Society, explained: “Our aim is to promote and preserve the great history of Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club, and we are looking to establish a museum at the new Community Stadium when it opens at Falmer in 2011.

“This annual Collectors’ Fair raises funds towards that purpose while giving supporters the chance to increase their own collections. We also include a live auction, which is always exciting and guaranteed to have a bargain or two.”

The doors will be open from 11am to 2pm, with the auction of Albion memorabilia at 1pm. Admission is free and light refreshments will be available.

This year visitors to the fair will be able to inspect the club’s newly restored international honours boards, which detail those players who have made full international appearances while turning out for the club – from Charlie Webb in 1909 to Wayne Henderson in 2006.

“It was our privilege to have these boards expertly restored, and we are most grateful to VH Signs of Woodingdean for doing such a splendid job,” remarked Tim. “It’s also great that visitors to the fair will be able to see first-hand the sort of project that the pursuit of their own hobbies helps to fund through our Society.”

Tim appealed for anyone wishing to enter Albion-related items into the auction or wanting to hire a table to sell their own Albion memorabilia to PM him without delay.

“The Society also welcomes donations of programmes or any other Albion-related material,” he added.

Has anyone sold anything at these events in the past?
I have a large collection of Brighton programmes that I need to sell but have given up on ebay due to the amount of effort and costs involved.

Is there normally much interest in programmes from the 70s onwards or have most people got these in their collections now?

Have you got a list?

Most collectors will have the post-70s stuff already but there might be a few 'gems' in there. The rarer items are programmes for postponed games and there are a couple of other games that are classed as 'rare'

The Collectors Fair is a great opportunity to see (and buy!) a whole load of Albion memorabilia.

As Hiney points out, you may have some programmes that are sought after, but most collectors will probably have the vast bulk of what you have. But, you are welcome to take a table for the day for just 10 pounds and see how you get on. For 10 pounds it's got to be worth a try. But you will need to get them organised. PM me if you want to try.

The auction is fun. With some interesting items appearing. I successfully bid for an Albion aftershave and talc gift pack from the 70s. I am a man of taste :)

This is to inform those who are interested that the catalogue for the Albion memorabilia auction on Sunday, 23rd November, at 1pm is now available at www.albionhistory.org.uk. I apologise for it being made available with only just over a week to go, but there has been a considerable last-minute rush of good items that I wanted to ensure were included in the first edition. Other lots may be added in due course.

If you wish to bid for any lot then please read the notes for bidders on the auction page first; and remember that the successful bidder is responsible for postage and packing charges.

The Albion collectors' fair itself will see doors open at 11am. We will have at least seven tables of Albion programmes, books, pictures, etc etc! And if you like those photo-montages they used to sell in the club shop, then it will be the fair for you!

The event is a fund-raiser for the Brighton & Hove Albion Collectors' and Historians' Society. We hope to establish a museum at the new Community Stadium.

Hope to see you there. Happy bidding!
