If Coppell honestly thinks that Oatway is better than even a 75% Chippie then we are in for a very long and dull season.

Chippy is carrying a back injury at present

Thought the first half was dire but the second was a bit better. Went through a period of play where we passed it to them and they kindly passed it back!!

Thought Jones was the one creative link we had. The rest of the midfield worked hard and thought Charlie was better than Rodger and OGH.

Where the f*ck was Piercy?? Everyone said he was the one positive to come out of the Colchester game and he wasn't even on the bench....

Agree with you about Charlie.
Too many people seem to blaim Oatway whenever we play badly. I thought he had a very good game last night and at least tried to pass it. (Wasn't it a pass from him that set up the goal?)
Piercy was in the North Stand. God knows why after how he played at Colchester.

As hard as I try to be positive most of the time, I thought last night was a frustrating worry. Get everything you've got on Chesterfield to get relegated. Mortgage your house, sell your car, your kids, everything. They were easily the worst side I've ever seen at Withdean. Every single time one of our forward players tried to get round them with the ball on the ground, their defenders fell over. They couldn't even stand up, let alone pass the ball.

Yet we were hoofing it over the top for long periods, to a man who's 5ft 4in tall! The team is capable of better than that, and they looked short of confidence and stricken with nerves in the last few minutes, against a side who couldn't string two passes together.

Positives? Well I think some people are letting their dislike of Oatway obscure the fact that he's one of our better players at the moment. He's doing the job he's in there to do (and his pass over the full back's head put Knight in last night, as the defender, surprise surprise, fell over) while people like Rodger, so influential last season, have been a sore disappointment so far this time round. Butters continues to improve, and I think Hinshelwood is a decent defender, although I can't remember a single occasion last night when one of his passes found a blue and white shirt. And Knight of course. On the very few occasions he got the ball to feet he looked dangerous, but he currently spends half his playing time shouting 'to feet, to feet' at his team-mates.

Make no mistake as to how poor Chesterfield are - they were absolutely, utterly, comprehensively shit, but we were still hanging on for the points at the end. They should have been dead and buried by then but we looked panic stricken. If we play like that on Saturday we'll get taken to the cleaners.

MOM? The ref - thought he was excellent.

That's my negative posting quota for the year expended, had to get it out of the system. Back to being positive before the weekend - I think that's a really important game.

Anyone see the striker run into Butters and bounce off him? Classic moment:lolol:

I have been impressed with Butters actually. I think he suits division 2 well.

Mayo played great along the left wing and Leon was making a nuisance out of himself.

However, I do think we played terribly (especially in the first half). It took us until the 70th minute, when it looked like we would win, for us to calm down and settle into the game. Before that, we were doing long balls, rubbish passes, and the new goalkeeper (bless his heart) was awful. When we settled down we passed more and at one point made over 10 (!) passes without them intersepting the ball!:lolol: This is the kind of game I like.

Bloke next to me as ref plays advantage and ball is hoofed up to Knight: "Where's the :censored: advantage in that ref!? - there's no ":censored: advantage!" Next second - defender slips, Leon pounces, 1-0, Leon slips on sand pit.

Good advantage ref! Top finishing Leon!

lol Deano.

I always laugh at people. It always happens. People groan at a shit ball and then we go very close or score. :lolol:

Thought he did ok but seemed to lose a bit of confidence after the hiccup in the first half . Looked really positive before that though.
