The smug Geordie snore-meister just had the cheek on MOTD to tell Martin O'Neill to come up with a new goal celebration, owing to the fact that he's been doing the same manic touchline jig "since the 1970s".

Of course Shearer, during his long career, was responsible for a range of crazy and varied celebrations, such as:

Alan: do us all a favour, get over the fact Newcastle have thus far failed to beg you to be their manager, take the job and get your old-boys-club joviality and fence-sitting opinions off our TV screens

Couldn't agree more!

Shearer is just jealous, O'Neill is far more of a footballing man, pundit AND manager than old boring Al will ever be....

Still, the producers got their own back by forcing him to be nice to Craig Bellamy... a player he hates with a passion...

What winds me up is that he's clearly desperate for the Newcastle job, but far too proud (or self-important, or both) to openly apply for it.

So he gets his mates ("a source close to Shearer") to run to the media, letting it be known that he's interested, in the hope that the club will come crawling to him and kiss his arse. By never officially applying, he also avoids the humilation of being beaten to the job by someone crap like JFK.

I can't see any manager at that club being successful while the giant shadow of Shearer lurks in the background, continually leaking his opinions to the press but never actually being directly quoted. He's as sneaky as a pundit as he ever was as a player.

Kicking Lennon again?

I don't know Edna, Joe is doing a bloody good job in difficult circumstances and even the Geordies probably realise he's got far more bottle than bland man Al.

He'll probably be a complete failure if/when he does take the job, if it's any consolation.

I reckon that's why he hasn't taken it so far, he's scared of failing and losing his hero status on Tyneside.

you assume that its not the media making up the stories to goad him in to taking the job, its not unheard of for the media to make up or embelish a story...? most likly doesnt wont the job right now with the current arrangements.

Shearer has never got over his worst ever career decision, not joining MUFC

That was entirely down to his financial demands.

Err how, he was on £100K a week at Newcastle and would have got the same at MUFC but cocked up big time.

Gaza was another one who missed the boat as well with MUFC and I believe Le Tissier

In all fairness Le Tissier was a man wth absolutely no ambition, just a love for Southampton. He could have played for anybody at the peak of his career and won some medals.

According to a man who is very well into the premiership game ie chief scout at a major club. He WANTED £100K per week plus £5k per point Man U got when he played £5k per goal and to take the penalties and free kicks within 25 yds of the goal, so thus giving him more chance of scoring. If Man U won 1 -0 with him getting a penalty that would have been a £20k bonus. Ferguson was not prepared to pay either the basic wage or the bonus or be dictated to about freekicks etc. So he couldnt agree terms and joined Blackburn instead on a higher basic wage, not sure whether they agreed to his bonus demands he then eventually went to Newcastle.

Why is it so black and white that anyone that doesn't join United has missed the boat?
At times, NUFC have rivaled MUFC, and even Sadhampton have had their moments in the sunshine. Lettuce ear also preferred to stay there because of the locality with his Channel Islands home.

shearer will never take the newcastle job because he won't want his reputation tarnished, and he's an egotistical twat

If only a certain Albion manager had listened to that advice.....

I think Shearer is a LEDGE.

When he joined newcastle he was joining his HOME TEAM...and a BLOODY GOOD SQUAD. The season after he signed they, by all rights, should have won the premier league but threw it away for united to stroll through. I mean, they were BEATING UNITED 5-1 ETC.

I can fully understand why he joined them, and really, if newcastle had any sense on that board, they should be up where united are now. They had the facilities and team, just no common sense.

So i never understand how people can call it a bad decision to have joined them instead.
