An intensely dislikeable character, but a very, very good manager who can cobble a silk purse from a sows ear.

Once our customary abject failure is confirmed next summer, Hodgson should very much be looking over his shoulder.

He's had a few arguments through passion of the game, but at the friendlies at lower league clubs this summer, you stand and watch when he comes out at the start of the game. He walked over to those by the side of the pitch in wheelchairs etc, spends an age with each one just conversing with them.

It's the little things.

However, I'm not sure if he'll ever become an England manager... the amount of public dirt they'll attempt to pull out on him will be ridiculous.

Much as he is a complete bellend, he has done an incredible job there and signed some great players. Surely the leading candidate for the England job at the moment.

Pardew actually did very well at Soton and built the team that got them consecutive promotions. He's riding a wave at Palace, but this wave will crash soon, too much luck in to shorter space of time

Of course, I've never been to a casino with him, been insulted or nutted by him on a touchline or had any women of my acquaintance subjected to his amorous intentions.

Not an obvious candidate but when discussions like this get thrown up, I'm always amazed that Gary Monk gets overlooked. Done a sterling job at Swansea after so many wrote him off.

Would be the youngest England manager ever should that happen? I would like to see what he can do but I feel he could do with a bit longer in the game before taking over.
