Was talking to another poster the other day who saw Alan Mullery recently at one of those after dinner speech dos. Apparently Mullery said he's been to the Amex but so far never been invited by the club. Which strikes me as odd, if true. Regardless of his ill fated second spell at the club (which I'm sure nobody holds against him), the man is an absolute Albion legend surely? To this day he's achieved what no other Albion manager achieved before or since, and is also despised by Palace fans: what's not to like?

I know he left on bad terms in 1987 (?) but surely there can't be anyone at the club who still holds that against him. It amazes me, therefore, that they've never had him on the pitch as a half time guest so far. Plenty of legends (& lesser names) have been wheeled
out already so why not him? He should have been one of the first ones on the list IMHO. He'd be entitled to a fantastic reception. Get that man in.

I'd also love to see Garry Nelson down at some point- he still takes a keen interest judging by his Twitter feed.

Don't know about the Cup Final team, but certainly Chris Cattlin feels that the '77 and '79 promotion squads have been a bit overlooked in terms of official recognition and appreciation. He said that a couple of years ago, mind.

Spot on Edna. Although I still struggle with the fact that he stuck Dean Saunders - one of the best strikers we've ever had at the club - on the left wing to create room for Richard Tiltman FFS.

As for Garry Nelson, please will someone at the club get him on the pitch and soon.

Think both of those are a good call. The Mullery situation is a bit odd bearing in mind what he achieved.

There are those who think even someone like a latter day Steve Cotterill could have got that Albion team promoted though. I guess if you did think along those lines, you'd only whisper as much.

It was absolutely BRILLO to see Chris Cattlin for the Coventry game. Classy bloke.

I am sure Tony Bloom knows what Mullery meant to our Club.

However - did Mullery ever come to Withdean ? (I don't know whether he did or he didn't - I am genuinely interested).

think fozzie still has issues with the club over his takeover bid with pardue but i could and state could be mistaken

Think he's over it now for a while, used to go to Withdean quite often last 2 seasons, and seen him at Amex I'm sure

There was a big falling out when he was sacked after his second spell, I think Mullery felt he'd been stabbed in the back & vowed never to return. But I'd like to think times & personnel have changed & he'd be more than welcome now. He did say he's been, just not at the club's instigation- presumably Sky or something?

I just think the club should be asking him.

We've had (off the top of my head) Chris Cattlin, Peter Ward, Todd Carty (!), Norman Gall, Perry Digweed, plenty of others, but not the man responsible for the Albion's greatest achievement. It's an anomaly IMHO, and one that should be fixed. The man deserves his moment in front of the Albion masses once again.

He does also work every match day, either for Spurs, Fulham or Sky
