He doesn't say that. He just says that Gus is presumably trying.

You lot seem to think that just because you don't hear anything, it must mean the club aren't bothering. Whereas in reality they're probably making calls left, right and centre to try and get someone in. Gus wants to keep his job like anyone else, why wouldn't he try? He's probably asked about loads of players, but they've turned us down, or their clubs have.

The fact is, at the moment we are an average third division team, paying average wages, playing in a shit stadium. Even the most one-eyed Albion fan must be able to at least slightly grasp the reality of persuading a solid gold, guaranteed 25 goal a season man to come down here, Falmer or no Falmer.
Blimey, you speak much sense....for a girly weed.

But it isn't is it, I thought that had become adundantly clear by now, we are not going to splash the cash in this transfer market, that is assuming that there is ACTUALLY a lot of it to splash, none of us actually know how well off bloom is, he put £93 into the stadium, but for all we know he borrowed that, our playing budget has barely grown since he took over. People need to accept that we are no Soton/Hudders and we dont have millions to throw at players, neither do we have the facilities to draw in top players, 2 years at st Marys or A Year at withdean and then a year at falmer on the same wage? Not even counting the training facilities I know which one i'd go for every time.

Don't think Calde would agree with you... so that kills your argument...

Tony AND Gus raised expectations, now they are reaping the fans response... the lickers need to check back on Tony and Gus' comments re promotion AND signing a top striker before they criticise the fans that are pointing out that we are currently falling short in terms of squad building...

calde was holding out in the hope of an offer from elsewhere, do we know if he ever got one? maybe soton were not offering as good wages or only offering 2 years? maybe they didn't want him because of the injury. mendoza's thread is going down the same path as mine right now.

Yeah to be fair he's only know about this since Forster left in January. Clearly that's not enough time to sign a striker.

I do get this feeling with our fans that Gus Poyet can do no wrong. If we were in this position with McGhee/Wilkins/Adams or Slade everyone would be moaning that we hadn't signed a left winger or a striker that we've been in desperate need of for a long time.

Thats not quite right.

The thing is Gus is young, he is inexperienced and he is learning. We see the potential he has to be a leading manager, but it won't be without mistakes. People are more patient because of this potential. In my humble opinion, anyway.

Indeed. Plus, there are plenty of people moaning that we haven't signed anyone yet. Including the person who posted that. :) Defeat + no one signed for a short while = NSC on it's down cycle. We sign Lua-Lua and beat Walsall we'll be contenders for the title again.

Truth is we will most likely finish somehwere between 5th and 10th, that's always been the most likely outcome this season and still is, unless Bloom and Poyet pull off some amazing signing like Simon Cox or someone.

Just chuckling at Charlton
That is one way of working towards promotion. Stockpile strikers so potential rivals struggle to sign anyone half decent.

Lee became a bit of a cult hero at Palace the last few months he was here but was pretty universally disliked when he first signed. However if we got the reported half a mill for a 32 year old whose scoring record is nowt to write home about, i think that is pretty fair business on Burley's part.

I hope not as he is no better than Murray and would not complement or add to him at all.

Totally disagree... he would complement Murray well... totally different type of player...
