I am not aware that it has been forgotten, unlike another football tragedy involving the same club that is rarely mentioned, and the blame transferred to Chelsea/Napoli/Juve fans.

By all means ask not to play on that date, but a bit of consistency in respect of the forgotten 39 would show more humanity and humility.

Every time someone tries to start a sensible debate about the merits and demerits of safe standing at grounds arises one of the Hillsborough families is dragged onto the screen (rightly) condemning what happened on that dreadful day and progress is aborted.

Terraces didn't kill those poor souls, incompetent policing, lazy crowd control, a government that viewed football fans as dangerous animals and therefore caged them were the prime causes. A jibbing culture amongst the fanbase cannot be ignored, but if the authorities had done their job correctly this was easily overcome.

By all means boycott The Sun (I still do), but do more than tokenism. Those who don't buy the 30p a day rag (proprietor Rupert Murdoch) on Merseyside seem to have no qualms paying £50 a month for Sky (proprietor Rupert Murdoch).

Very well put. The hypocrisy is plain for everyone to see, provided they open their eyes!!! As for the 39, you seem to forget that they aren't scousers so they don't really count!!!!!!!

Yes they have all got to be there. Steven Gerrard Autobiography stated, that every new player or current member of the squad. Have it written in their contracts, they have to be present at every Memorial service. The Foreigners who Liverpool buy in the Summer. Also get told about the Disaster and not to buy the Sun Newspaper, so it really isn't a choice, it's more of a showing of togetherness.

That's a very poor understanding of the word togetherness. Sounds like they are bullied into it but still, if you are paid what they are paid how hard is it to spend a day looking glum!!!

My problem with Liverpool is that this uproar is the sort of attitude that's apparent through the whole culture of the club.

The Suarez affair was a demonstration of how the Liverpool mentality sets in and suddenly anyone who criticizes them are an enemy of Liverpool.

It is all well and good being vocal for your club but the it encourages the fanatics and generally mental people to take this siege mentality too far hence Davies getting death threats.

The only liverpool fans I've me seem to be in the fanatic bracket to the point that they are impossible to have a sensible football discussion with and literally cannot back down to a point that Liverpool have been wrong about anything ever. If ever there was a fan to swerve in a pub its a Liverpool fan.

And this is why they're my least favourite team in the land, far beyond Man United or Chelsea. No other set of fans have such a deluded sense of entitlement.

Are they being a tiny bit high-minded there in rejecting a thousand pound donation? I think people out there have said stuff relating to Hillsborough which was arguably far more contentious than Davies' comments, which were, after all, merely posing a question.

I presume Liverpool have played at Hillsborough since- by the same logic that dictates they won't play on 15th April, why would they agree to play at that stadium? Surely that would be far more traumatic, particularly for those who were there.

.

No, just cynical.

They exist to garner attention to their cause.

Davies has done them a huge favour, and they are milking it for all it is worth. Refusing his donation will earn them a few more column inches, and half an hour of additional drivel on Talksport.

How tremendously fortuitous. I've just acquired this mangy old cow that I'm trying to sell. Don't suppose you'd know anyone who might be interested?

Hopefully he found the penalty miss, and Wimbledon's eventual victory hilarious too.

Even though Davies has been a big campaigner for H/borough justice and his comments were purely based on fixture congestion and Chelsea's Champs league campaign, he's still getting grief.

Anyway I noticed The New York Mets, played baseball at home on 9/11.

It seems like Liverpool are out on a limp over this, I wonder if yesterdays events will have them reversing the decision.
Perhaps coinciding with a game v Everton?

Maybe they should have memorials on the 29th of May every year too?
