ALL? Would you class ska and rocksteady under that heading?

Everyone is different and I can understand why some people might not take to reggae, but I find it hard to imagine that anyone could dislike ska. It's not really a choice made by your ears or your head. It just seems to mainline through your heart to your feet. Play it to a toddler and just watch them go. I remember my eldest at about the age of three seeing Millie Small's 'My Boy Lollipop' on the TV and, with no prompting from anyone just dancing and dancing. I know someone else whose very little ones went through a phase of not agreeing to get in the car unless The Selector's 'On My Radio' was going to be part of the journey.

Love Bob Marley … and 60’s Jamaican ska. I’ve still got my parents copy of ‘My Boy Lollipop’ which is just a great song. I remember seeing Laurel Aitken back in 1980 supporting The Jam on the back of Rudi Got Married. I’m a bit indifferent on the 1970s ska revival … some I really like … some not so much.

One of my favourite songs is 54-46 Was My Number. I had a ticket to see Toots and the Maytals at The Dome - but sadly that’s one postponed gig that will never happen as Covid got Toots

What a tune! Toots was such a great singer.

The Brighton Soul Society seemed to get quite a few good bands down to the South Coast in the 80s. Saw Toots at the top rank ( give it to me four times). Also saw Gregory Isaacs, Steel Pulse, Aswad, Third World and the hated UB40.

In fairness I truly hate ALL reggae music. UB40 almost drove me to self harm, when they were big.

With the exception of a very few tunes, I'm with you. When The Albert, previously my favourite Sunday pub started doing Reggae Sundays with a DJ and a Jamaican roast dinner I had to find a new pub. Repetitive, depressing reggae, the smell of weed. Sweet potatoes instead of roasties? My idea of Hell. I realise this is a lot of people's idea of Heaven but no, I do not find it the least bit appealing.

I'd like to think if I were a POW

I could take alot of punishment before breaking

But if they put some reggae music on,I'd spill the beans immediately

That said,I've only heard reggae LIVE once in my lifetime

The support band for the Clash at the Top Rank 1979

And to my surprise, I really enjoyed it

No idea who they where though?

I like reggae, in small doses, but electronic music is the music I can’t listen to. That bloody repetitive back beat on nearly all of them actually makes me angry. Not convinced music is supposed to have this effect :lolol:

Yeah,probably that one

That song list isn't right though

They opened with London Calling

Some websites for band tours are very detailed, I couldn’t find any mention of a gig in Brighton 79, one site said they played at The Pavilion Brighton in 1980
There is a mention of the song list not being recorded.

London Calling was released in December 79,so I just assumed it was that year

Don't know when the tour kicked off presumably in the new year of 1980

Your right, they couldn't have played in Brighton any earlier in 1979,because I would have been there!

Gutted I missed there gig on Hastings Pier,77 was it?

I was just too young to get away with it then

They did 2 nights back to back in Jan 1980, I didn’t bother buying a ticket because of the no under 18 door code, think I have mentioned being turned away for SLF when I was 15.

They did play Hastings Pier Nov 77 and Sussex University May 77, also listed on the same website.
