On the male v female disparity ... A certain Kelly Richards of South Wales got off with a suspended jail sentence (2 yrs) and walked free after a fling with a 15yr old boy
Do you remember the case of the teacher and the Eastbourne 15 yr old schoolgirl ? Jeremy Forest got 5 and half yrs , out after 2 on licence

What was that song by Police ?
"Don't Stand So Close To Me"...young teacher, the subject of schoolgirl fantasy........
I remember that well, and that was far more serious. Not only did he have actual intercourse, he was also in a position of responsibility over her and then ran away to France with her, which, given her age, was effectively abduction.

The age of consent in Germany is 14, France 15 and lots of other countries.

Just making the point that the Victorian rules in this country has cost a young man 6 years in jail ( pending good behaviour) his high paid career finished for something that is legal 5 miles across the channel. And I also think that certain crimes should have longer sentences than this case such as GBH, ABH, drink driving injuries ect.

Dangerous insight into your mind. Wrongun

Victorian 'rules' that try to prevent the exploitation of children. Just because Germany and France have got it wrong doesn't make it right for scum like him to do this. He played her. He groomed her. My step-daughter is coming up 15 and if any 30 year old male thinks he's going to do what AJ did then they better watch out. Quite clearly you don't have a daughter !!!!

Good that he's banged away, good that he's lost his job ( one most of us would give our right arm to have ) and good that the country have seen him for the slimey sleeze ball he really is. Not an ounce of sympathy from me.

The law is an ass is so many ways. Another example if compared to many more heinous convictions it seems. And I'm quite hang em and flog em so not exactly lenient type. Six years is an astonishing sentence really IMO, trial by media perhaps?

The age of consent may be lower, but some of these countries also have laws that prevent men over 21 taking advantage of girls under 16 who may not be fully aware of the choices they are making. It could be harder to get a conviction but Johnson could still have faced charges if he'd followed the same path in Germany. It isn't as black and white as you are making it out to be.

Are there people on this thread genuinely arguing that the sentence was harsh? As in, actually seriously?

The dude knew what he was doing, he knew it was wrong. Her "looking older than she was" is entirely irrelevant. Her background is entirely irrelevant. What is relevant is that a near 30 year old male knowingly engaged in sexual activity with a child. You know, those small humans that adults are meant to protect and care for.

Jesus bloody wept, sometimes I despair that I support the same club as some people.

Yep, I would agree with this, though my views have not been popular here.

His mistake was that he thought the girl knew as well and was happy to go along with it and not make a fuss.

I wouldn't be surprised if this girl had sexual relations with other people before this, and thought this could earn a tidy compensation sum

This is an example of the public abuse of the victim that the judge has said was a consideration in determining the length of the sentence. It has no place on NSC and you, dangull, should be ashamed of yourself.

Laws are made for whatever reason. We are all obliged to abide by them whilst they lay on the record books. However debate about them does and should occur. If the consensus changes the law ok, if not we have to adhere to it. If you intend to break it you should face the fact you may have to pay the price. If all laws were slavishly adhered to we wouldn't be humans in a democracy we would be automatons living in a dictatorship. I AM NOT excusing Johnson or advocating child sex (god forbid) but, dangull is right to try to talk about the laws we have.

This is not debating the laws we have. He has practically called the victim a slag.

This made me think, did Bill Wyman ever get any punishment for his long relationship with Mandy Smith, 13 years old at the time of their first meeting. And whatever happened to that Book Pete Townsend was researching when he was paying for kiddie porn?

Sexually assaulting a child has cost a sex offender a few years in jail.

What makes you so sure that the rules in Germany and France are better than ours? Why do you think it's ok for an adult to have sex with 14 year old children, is that something you like doing?

When he was in prison she was barred from contacting him but said she would when he was released. Does anybody know how this turned out? Did they get back together when she was old enough?

Certainly not.
A) No intercourse took place.
B) This is legal in parts of the EU that we are still part off and if we stay may become are law soon

So what? It's not about what didn't take place, it's about what did take place.
B) This is legal in parts of the EU that we are still part off
So what? That's like saying it's ok to chop people's hands off in some parts of the world that we are still part of. It's totally irrelevant what's legal elsewhere, we're talking about what's legal here.

and if we stay may become are law soon
There's zero evidence to suggest that's the case. I expect it's more likely the law will change in Germany.

Insinuating someone is a peadophile is a little far don't you think? He's entitled to argue his views without that sort of abuse. It's not something id expect from you as a poster (a few others, yes, but you usually come across as more of the educated type).

I didn't insinuate that at all, he might go to Germany to meet his needs which, as he's keen to point out, would be fine. PS - even in this country, I've learnt from this thread that AJ isn't classed as a paedophile, as she was over 13.

He's entitled to argue his views without that sort of abuse.
He's of the view that it's not Adam Johnson's actions that have landed him in prison, it's our backward laws. With a view like that I think he's fair game for some tough questions.

It's not something id expect from you as a poster
Like I say, I'm not suggesting he's broken the law at all.

Triggarr, Germany and France are the 2 leaders of the European union, part of the euro which we are not in.

Any change of sex laws, the UK will not have much say in, if we decide to stay.
