Locadia scored 3 PL goals in 34 appearances. Better than Joelinton and a bang average player, for £15m.

I have not ignored the comparison. [emoji23]

So on that basis you’d go for £15m over £40m?

You missed that bit [emoji6]

I guess I'm trying to say that no matter how much you pay for a player, if his style doesn't fit with the managers style he will fail.

Thankfully Potter and Ashworth seem to understand this, and won't make that mistake.

But as per the original point if it means not having a LWB and paying more i’d do it. There is no point speculating on £15m players.

Honestly, this isn't complicated. John Stones cost city about £50m. A completely shot through injury Fernando Torres cost Chelsea £50m. Andy Carroll. Basically all of Everton's signings. The numerous duffers at West Ham etc etc. And then.....

Christian Benteke.

Spunking a ton of cash on a player does not guarantee quality, as has been proven over and over and over again.

I didn't miss any bit. In general, I trust our club to make the correct decisions re transfers. Oh and wages, that's the bit that you missed with your wish to go large on a striker.

Who did you have in mind btw?

But you’ve completely ignored the comparison with the £15m ordinary player.

Put another way would you prefer us to purchase a forward for £40m or one for £15m, assuming we’d done our homework etc....

Both could still turn out good or ordinary. I know which way I’d go.

I’d pay what is required for the best player we can afford.

If we think Nunez is the answer then go to £35m same with the Celtic player.

Just don’t go for someone like Toney or IMO Watkins and gamble.

Going back to the other point do you seriously believe City et al didn’t do due diligence on all of those (though to be fair I did wonder what Liverpool were playing at with Carroll).

There will always be expensive failures (£30m - £60m), but there will be more mid range failures. Look at Fulham and Villa in the last two seasons......

I do wonder why we don’t go after more Serie A players though, just think technically they are better, and if they are prolific with notoriously less chances they could be a success.

Wolves have had £20M rejected

David Ornstein, the Athletic's Arsenal corespondant, says Wolves rejected bid was below £20m.

The Evening Standard are still reporting our interest.

"Brighton and sides in Germany are keen on him, but Wolves have shown the strongest interest so far."

We may just be waiting for a bid to be accepted before matching it. His ability to play LWB, RWB and across the midfield makes him a very attractive proposition.

So I can't remember who told me (sorry) but I hear he doesn't want to play LWB, and that's the reason he's leaving Chelsea.

I can't read this whole thread right now.

Can someone confirm or deny this for me? Preferably with some type of source.

He’s at Arsenal not Chelsea ;)

Reports say he wants to play CM preferably. But if you’re under contract, you’re paid millions a year to do what the manager asks that benefits team.

Spend a little more if you can and a Bosh AEG Siemens or Smeg will give you many more years trouble free service

We have had our Siemens washing machine for ten trouble free years and still going strong

I’m out as I gather it doesn’t like the position you keep leaving it in either. We need machines that go where we want to place them without complaining about being out of position.

In terms of gamble hierarchy considering quoted prices (imho):

Watkins (£20-25m) - key player in promotion-chasing Championship side. 200 English league appearances and 66 goals (70% Championship) at 24; young, improving and has played with Maupay (gamble 20%)
Nunez - (£20-25m) Uruguayan full International (just) and key player in Segunda B promotion-chasing side. 44 appearances and 20 goals at 20. young, inexperienced, improving but never played in English football (gamble 30%)
Edouard - (£30M+) French (not full) international who's scored for fun in the SPL(!!). 100 odd appearances and 50 goals (80% in Scottish Football) at 22. Young, improving but never played in English football (gamble (40%)
Toney - (£10m) English (non-capped) who's scored for fun for Peterborough (the most attack-minded side over the past few seasons). 220 odd English (lower league) appearances and 76 goals at 24. (gamble 40%)

If us and Wolves are the only clubs in for him, then he is likely to be playing LWB next season regardless.

Wolves are looking at him to fill in for their injured left wing back Jonny, who did his ACL against Olympiacos on 6th August.

And it looks like there is a good chance that Wolves will lose right-sided attacking full back/midfielder Matt Doherty to Spurs.

If he's got a positive mindset and is willing & excited to be part of the team and make a difference as a LWB (and utility player) I'd be absolutely over the moon with this signing.

If he comes in as purely central midfielder I'd be happy of course but I've no idea if he can drastically improve on who we already have.
It's always possible of course. He looks decent enough.
But we really need a LWB of the Lamptey quality if Potter is going to play 3 at the back, and I've no idea what kind of total budget Tony is willing to spend.

Naylor said we are in for a striker and left back primarily. And other positions if a good deal pops up.
