After the dog dragging incident

I'm just trying to point out that far worse things happen every day in this country but everyone is up in arms about animal cruelty. Perspective.

Your comment, "So f***ing what?" was inferring that unless a crime is as bad as Sex trafficking or OAP mugging, then it really doesn't matter. Or at least that's how I read it.

Ok i understand they are terrible things to happen to an animal and i am an animal lover but it just annoys me that people in this country are up in arms about it when far worse things are happening to human beings. How many elderly will die from the cold this winter? How many homeless will die on the streets?

Point taken, the general public have become de-sensitised towards these sort of things, it happens so often that it has become, albeit sadly, the "Norm".

An animal being killed in such a way as microwaving or being dragged behind a car is out of the ordinary and will inevitably generate a huge amount of outcry, we are a Nation of "Animal Lovers" after all.

Alternatively, he's simply commenting on people's bizarre levels of outrage and lack of perspective.

I'm not saying this women isn't a sicko, or that it isn't depraved, or anything else, but I am uncomfortable at the levels of outrage spewn from these threads compared to say, the reaction to an article (for argument's sake) that 1,000 jobs could be lost just before Christmas in some northern town - which would be 1,000 entire families worrying about a roof over their heads and the associated misery.

If I posted that, these same people might shrug their shoulders, some might offer a bit of sympathy, but mostly it would be casual indifference. And that irritates me.

So f***ing what?? Far worse things are happening to human beings in this very country every day. Children being forced and sold into the sex industry. Elderly people being beaten and mugged for a few pounds by drug addicts... Do we say we want to hunt them down?

A cowardly act is exactly that, regardless. so should we have a chart that we look up to see how many points putting a cat in a microwave would yield,oh look its only 10 pts for that, arghh So f***ing what??

Thanks, sure people are aware of this though. And not EVERyone is up in arms. I doubt most of the UK are even aware. Those that are are allowed to feel appalled though without feeling they can't just because there's other cruelties being committed to humans. I often think it's crueler to harm animals, just like it is children, because they're far more vunerable. And that's what strikes a cord with "animal lovers". I think it's the way you've phrased your initial reply that's caused offence. Bit OTT (testimony to which is it's taken further posts by you to explain your point).

But this topic isn't about those things...

Since when did a thread ever stay on topic on NSC? And in my opinion it is on topic. My biggest bug with this is it's not just all over the internet it's small minded people at work spouting the same crap as i see on here.

Simster explained my point better than i did anyway.

Magoo, how exactly does discussing the topic of a dog being dragged to its death and a cat being nuked in a microwave make us small minded?

Because if it does then virtually everyone I've spoken to either at work or in the pub for the last 3 days is small minded.

saddest thing about these incidents is that the psychopaths attend court, get found guilty/admit guilt of cruelty to animals,
and are "punished" by being told theyre not allowed to keep pets for two years.....

Yup, does seem like a gap in the law. IMHO, there should be a register for psychopaths, because somebody that doesn't care about causing extreme cruelty to an animal seems highly unlikely to care about doing similar to a human being somewhere further down the line.

Agree. We could put Magoo on it too. He's dangerously out of control on this thread. Probably watching "falling down" with michael douglas as we type

I'd say it's you and a few others that have been like that the last few days. I don't recall Magoo calling for violence upon a stranger based on something he read on the internet.
