According to those articles AFC Wimbledon owns kingsmeadow. That's how they are paying for the new ground (by selling to Chelsea).

This isn't a done deal yet. There are strong objections from Wandsworth council and local residents who would rather the greyhound stadium be there. The final decision could be Boris's.
Be a shame if the Last Greyhound stadium with a London postcode was to go.

Good news that they have moved a step closer to a stadium and it looks pretty huge given the size of the club. The blocks of flats packed in around the stadium look proper grimbo- too many in a small space but I guess that's whet developers want to do these days- cram as many units on as possible.

It seems a bit of a disaster that Kingstonian are being kicked out of their own ground so that Chelsea can train there and play reserve and women's matches etc. Given what Wimbledon have been through this seems ridiculous but I'm sure there is more to it behind the scenes. Can anyone provide any insight- do Kingstonian just not need a ground that big, or can they not afford it?

It's not Kingstonian's ground, the guy who owned the ground sold it too AFC Wimbledon, who let Kingstonian play there rent free. Now they're selling the ground Wimbledon need the money to build their new ground.

Because the "Dons" part refers to Wimbledon, which if I understand correctly isn't actually part of Milton Keynes.

But the links to Wimbledon are part of the story of MK Dons. That doesn't change just because AFC Wimbledon have a new ground. You may not like it, but the link to wimbledon will always be a significant part of MK Dons lore.

All a bit silly. Kingstonian didn't have to sell their stadium to Wimbledon in the first place but they got into difficulty and Wimbledon were actually quite a convenient solution. Of course, once Wimbledon started changing things, there was these whispers that Wimbledon were bullying them in their own home. Not really very fair, IMO.

And really, who gives a tuppenny toss that Aldershot might lose out on Chelsea reserve money FFS? They're not entitled to have a sugar daddy big club from 40 miles away paying for their facilities. Chelsea could play reserve games anywhere. What do they (or Wimbledon) owe Aldershot?






AFC Wimbledon deserve a ground in the borough of Merton, but why there? Or why not make it a multi-purpose stadium (with the council's financial help perhaps) and show a bit of vision? I'll be gutted when that dog track goes - I lived in Wimbledon for ten years and I've been there dozens of times. If Merton Council had done their jobs properly, they could have allowed Plough Lane to be rebuilt, they could have ensured the compulsory purchase of the desolate factory land between Morden and South Wimbledon and built it there. Instead we've got this shambles, meaning that the 3000 dog racing fans every week (1500 most Fridays) and stock car racing fans will have nowhere to go. I just don't think it's fair to blame AFC Wimbledon's long suffering supporters for this. They just want their club back home.
