Yes, rules are rules and all that but having talked to my AFC-supporting mate about it this morning, this is, he claims, a tiny administrative error to do with (if I understand it correctly) how you register players from Wales along the same lines as international registration, rather than just UK registration - it's purely a matter of extra paper work, nothing more than that.

Given that they're receiving a far harsher treatment than, say, the large-scale fraud perpetuated by Chesterfield ever did, they are, to use the words of William Rees-Mogg in 1967, crushing a butterfly on a wheel - their season's likely to be over now. It seems hugely disproportionate to me at least.

He reckons that AFC Wimbledon are such a cash-cow for that league that they were always likely to throw the rule book at them in order to keep them in it, which makes perfect sense to me.
If that is true then I doubt we've heard the last of this. It does seem as if the punishment is disproportionate to the crime...

True.

But it is AFC Wimbledon, so by default we are meant to feel sorry for them.

Is this not the same ruling that got Altrincham relegated last season?

IIRC Piers Alty didn't get relegated due to other clubs going into admin in the end.

The facts are that Darlington retired as a pro player and then after 9 months decided to start playing again semi-pro and went to AFCW. No-one knew he needed international clearance, INTERNATIONAL clearance that is, to move form not playing for an English league club to playing for an English non-league club.

No-one is disputing the fact the rules were broken and no-one is disputing there should have been a punishment.

But 18 points and another 400 pounds fine??? That is excessive.

It's the same as Altrincham? got last year so its only fair. Although I would like too see AFC do well and its a shame because they could have gone up this year.

Oh yes, we always look forward to this match as we never seem to be able to beat the Wombles.

Hopefully, Haydon the Womble will be joining Howie the Hornet along with Tadworth the Hound from the Childrens Trust to help entertain the masses.

Hope that doesn't put people off coming!

I know its changing the subject slightly, but looking at AFC Wimbledon and MK Dons history page you are given the same spiel.

Wasn't there some agreement whereby MK Dons relinquished any past ties with the old Wimbledon past?

Guilty as charged.
No point in appealing. At least that means the Ryman League will have the pleasure of AFCW next season again.
Come on you Hornets!

There was an agreement brokered by the Dons Trust, MK supporters Association, the FSF, Supporters Direct and Merton council to have the honours returned to the borough of Merton. This was supposed to have happened by about 3 weeks ago.

wankleman has not upheld his send of the agreement by returning the honours. Currently no-one knows what will happen next.
