Could the wise people of NSC please advise the best companies to use for personal accident injury claims, there seems to be so many out there and having read some of the feedback from people a lot seem to have issues.

Not only will you lose a fair whack if you win anything, but they will actively encourage you to be, err, economical with the truth on claim forms (since they are generally on a no win, no fee basis), which, if you do so is, of course, fraud. Guess who signs the claim form and is thus culpable if the fraud is detected? Betcha guessed correctly. They're scum. If you have genuinely had a personal injury where someone other than you is to blame then a straight firm of solicitors will tell you so, advise you whether you're likely to win and, if so, how much compensation you'll get, and help you all through the process - all for less money than the ambulance chasers will charge you. The only time you're ever better off with the ambulance chasers is if you're trying it on, when, if you lose, you pay nothing. If you're not trying it on, use a reputable firm of solicitors.

Do you really? Isn't the case in this country that the solicitor's fees are separate and would be paid as part of costs by the other side. Failing that, your solicitors would normally get you take out After the Event insurance which would cover your fees if you lose. I would go on to say that most of these cases are probably dealt with purely on correspondence and are never likely to see a court room unless the case is disputed and there are no witnesses to support either side.

In America the solicitors get a chunk of the award but not sure that happens here.

This - all of it. Avoid at all costs. Do you have any insurance for this at all ? If you were in a car your own insurance should deal with it, or do you have legal cover as part of your house insurance ? If not, as suggested go and have a chat with a reputable local solicitor about your options.
