Sorry to ask but I need some advice, and the collective brains of NSC may well be one of the best places I can turn to.

Two weeks ago my stepfather left my mother, who is housebound since she has had a couple of strokes. I have been to see her and she is OK, and a very good friend is visiting daily, and providing meals. So far I have made her tenancy safe as I can for the present and will need to obtain a Property Adjustment Order, which is one of the things I need to ask about. Eg, what is it etc, and where do I get it.

Also on Friday I will be meeting with her social worker, is there any questions I should ask at the meeting.

Many thanks.

Paul aka Dover.

I'd go to CAB and see what they say.

My sister in law was divorced and their PAO came from the county court, but I have no idea if that is standard.

I don't know how able your mother is to do things, but from that meeting I would ask for a care plan to be put into writing so that everyone knows what the other is meant to be doing. If you are meant to make sure prescriptions are filled or social services are meant to bring meals on wheels, if transport is meant to be arranged, if someone is meant to take her out, if someone is meant to help with the mail or whatever. Just so everyone knows what they should be doing and so that they can't turn around and say it wasn't their job or whatever. Not sure that paragraph made sense, my brain is fried.

find out who her "Care Co-ordinator" is (it is likely to be the social worker but it may be someone else). ask them about the NHS Care Plan, which should identify specific responsibilities. any problems go straight back to the Care Co-ordinator (make sure you have specific contact details for them), they are the ones who are responsible and should be hassled if need be!
