Hi wise ones.

Am thinking of upgrading to one of these.

I remember that this is often a topical debate but as we currently stand have you any recommendations money being an object.

Easy 10 what is the latest on the Yamaha soundbox?

Thanks

Following advice I got on here I went to Hills of Portslade and bought a Panasonic 50" Plasma. Compared to the Pioneer, I couldn't see any noticable difference with them side by side.

I am very pleased and although I don't watch a lot of telly, what I do watch now is a much better experience.

The general view seems to be up to 42", get LCD, over that then do for Plasma and not LCD.

Yes. Paid £1800 which included a black glass stand (had that instead of the surround sound system that was bundled with it).

For that price it was delivered and installed as well.

Also got a 5 year Panasonic guarantee - this was an offer from Panasonic on certain models bought before then and of Dec or Jan (can't remember which now).

I could have got it a bit cheaper on the internet, but it was good being able to see the model, have it delivered and installed and also have someone to go back to IF a problem arises.

We recently (December) got a Philips 37" LCD and I'm glad I didn't go any bigger as I'm sure it would have felt like I was being eaten by my tele. Our tv room isn't huge to start with

That's good advice tedebear. Some of the larger screensizes would just swamp a small room.

Don't get it too small though else all that lovely HD will blur in to nothing

The general rule of thumb is 40inch is good for 7 feet away..

I think play.com is quite good if you find some reviews/advice and stuff first then have a look and you could make some savings. My Dad bought our Samsung Tv and then I saw it on Play, £200+ cheaper!!

Rather than save £100 by buying online it is better to purchase from a dealer as you can get a demo of the actual TV in action perhaps alongside another manufacturers. My 42 inch Sharp lcd came with a black glass stand from a Euronics dealership in Grimsby but I had to haggle for 15 minutes to get free installation and delivery as they couldn't budge on the TV price but took off the £30 from the stand price , so technically they could tell other customers that there was still a delivery charge. If you buy a TV online and when delivered it is faulty or scratched then you have to pay for the pick up costs to return it 99% of the time.

How soon is now?
Richer Sounds - they're pretty good. I bought our 26" LCD for £250 from them, and they do a 5 year warranty for 10% of the cost of the unit.

Although i have to say that now we've moved i'd have gone for a larger screen. Strange as the old room was bigger and the telly fitted great - now we have smaller front room but the telly feels smaller.

In a Viz type money saving tip

buy a 27" , save loads of money on the price and push your sofa close up giving the impression of a 50"

Full HD: No

:bigwave:

full hd ready

if you wanted HD tv you would NEVER buy a plasma or a LCD

if you want genuine HD television forget the sky bullshit and keep your cathode ray tube TV because despite the hype your good old fashioned tube television will give a higher definition picture than any flatscreen.

and guess what,,i have the plasma i recomended and i play my Wii through an ANALOGUE component cable. the image is better than my sons full HD sony using HDMI to display his DIGITAL playstation 3

the trouble with new technology is some people EXPECT it to be better than the one it replaces and they fool themselves it is.

ever compared the sound from a CD to a record?

or even heard a valve amplfier?

i am afraid not, but as an old git i have seen some crap pushed as better technology by the electronics industry, the list includes

transistors/valves

compact cassette/ 8 track cartridge(not including reel to reel because they arn't portable so not a direct comparison)

vhs/betamax -video 2000-video disc

CD/12"album

or the latest big winner in the lower grade technology beating the better option.
blu-ray/HDDVD

God no, I've long since given up on analogue audio, and while I'll watch a strong signal analogue version of something if available (RTE, Eurosport, etc) I'm still watching it on an LCD...

Sorry, but I find that quote VERY hard to believe.

How can a Wii with inferior graphics display a better picture than a PS3 on a HDTV set?

If indeed that is what you are saying then I suggest your son gets Sony to check his set or PS3 out as it most certainly is faulty!
