Adkins' Merseyside Mouth

High up on the South Downs.
Adkins came across as an unassuming, circumspect manager at Scunthorpe.

Why has he changed so much at Southampton? Is it the maritime atmosphere that reminds him of his home patch? Is he spending too much time whoring? Why all the bragging Nigel?

Suggestions on a postcard please.

Couldn't agree more. Seemed nice guy at Scunny, but complete change. Going on about Saints being like Red Rum now, catching up with and overtaking Crisp in 1973 Grand National !

Probably as simple as Southampton fans attitude allows for him to come out and be arrogant as it matches their mind set almost to a tee.

Obviously Scunny fans aren't anything like Saints fans and he couldn't get away with it there.

Er, more to do with the fact nobody pays Scunthorpe any attention whatsoever. He could have been shouting his mouth off every minute of every day up there and none of us would have heard it.

I think it's time we put him on the ignore list and stopped getting wound up to be honest. It's only a bit of mind games on his part. Think about it. His team have underachieved this season, and he's trying to make them feel good about themselves, show a bit of belief, as well as trying to get under the skin of other teams. That's all. It's basic stuff. Fortunately our players aren't bothering to listen, even if our fans are. And he's certainly not going to say "well that's it, Brighton are well away, there's no point in us even trying now" because it would be demotivating to his players. You'll probably find that, if we do win this league, he'll surprise us all and be very generous about it.

Then again he might not. But you never know.

A friend of mine who works with kids with learning dificulties at Scunny fc says as a physio Adkins was a great bloke who always had time for the kids but as soon as he became manager he wouldn't give them the time of day ... Total w*nker!

I think the more he says out aloud about winning the league the more he believes it. You can't blame him for trying it as a motivation technique for his own team - others try the "Brighton can't be caught" approach.

Hopefully he will have to eat humble pie pretty soon.

Exactly. Just watched the post match interviews with Adkins and Gary Megson on the FL Show and if you were a player, who would you respond to more?

Adkins, being positive and upbeat, regardless of whatever bullshit is actually coming out of his mouth, or the droning, monotonous tones of Megson, with his permanently hangdog expression and general air of resignation?

being truthful and saying that games are pointless because there is nothing to play for really worked well for mark mcghee. even when it was 100% true...
