BBC Sport - Southampton the team to catch - Nigel Adkins

1,2,3....let the binfest begin!!

Got to say, even though he's stating the obvious, he's one smug son of a ***** isn't he? No class. Maybe this year because we're behind them, it means we're the better club and BHA are everyone's "cup final"? Or does it not work that way Nige?!

the "everybody's cup final" thing is a bit arrogant but to be honest, everything else there he says makes sense and seems pretty much like what Gus was saying when we were top. Only one arrogant twat comment in an article is pretty good for him so maybe he's mellowing out?

The difference being that this time he is right. They are top by 5 points. Fair enough.

Saying Southampton is everyones cup final is quite laughable this year though. He's deluded if he thinks that. He was probably right last year mind...It was either them or Sheffield Wednesday.

Eh? FFS some people will get offended by anything. There is nothing REMOTELY controversial in that, clearly.

TBH I think he has a point (apart from the cup final bit - only Pompey will see it as their big game in this division)

Still too early to say, If they're top at Christmas by 5 or more points then I think he's got a point but it's only October, one little bad run and they could be down to 4th or 5th. Never liked the twat.

I'm with the majority here, can't really argue with what he said and he's every right to be pleased and proud - I'll even give him the 'cup final' quote (for last season). And fair play to him, he manages to say it in an articulate manner, unlike 90% of the Southampton fans who post on here.

5 points clear after 12 played - newly promoted to boot. The guy could say what he wanted, yet he kept it relatively down to earth. You have to acknowledge how good they are.

He was just making the point that last year Lg1 clubs like Yeovil and Tranmere raised their game against Saints, just as they did against Leeds. Getting a 'named' scalp and playing in front of a big crowd in a 32,500 capacity stadium is the closest to a cup final many players from most clubs in Lg1 will get. He never mentioned the championship in that context.

Sorry should have highlighted the above for likes of Simster who raged into their computer. The smug sounding bit refers to "everyone's cup final again". He could have said the essence of what he said in a more "classy" way IMO. But then he's trying to win the league not a popular contest I guess. Still, rage away everyone!

No they have. Clearly. Just like we did last year. Now the roles have been reversed it means we're everyone's cup final and the league lies etc surely?! :)

"raged into their computer"?

Not really. The tone of your post was that a binfest was inevitable and because he was a smug git. It's not my fault no-one agrees with your over-sensitive view.

Understandable , they beat a decent West Ham side and five points clear - can't blame them for feeling smug

HOWEVER they are yet to have their blip , if they said this in the run in it may have more impact - what he instead has done is given him a noose to hang himself.

If you could read, he clearly said " everyones cup final " as in league one last season, not this season.

f***ing twats.

i see where your coming from mate, however i'd like to think Poyet and the Brighton fans are bigger and more mature than what Adkins was last season!

he made a big mistake saying what he did. let's not make the same one.

Great start to the season and they look very, very strong indeed. Even fatty Lambert seems to be playing well.

I still want to punch Adkins though.
