The way he has stepped out of defence and driven forward has been a real positive in recent matches. Often its great option as it draws players from others and commits the opposition. Its also dynamic so the pace of the attack has momentum. I'm waiting for the one where he just keeps going and lashes in it top corner from 30 yards out. He's thought about about it a few times but then passed. Its coming.

He's one of the main reasons why our defence is a bombscare, always has a rick in him. Isn't good enough to be the Beckenbauer Potter wants him to be but he'll still play regardless because 20 mill was splashed out. Might progress if he works on the basics of his game under a new manager

Sir. I hope you have unlimited patience.

Taking a shot and lashing it in the top corner from 30 yards are very different things

A bit harsh mate. Webby's been one of the main bright points recently.

All the people who stick up for Webster are right. Since he's been at the club he's had extended periods of very good form

All the people who slate Webster are right. Since he's been at the club he's had extended periods of awful form

He's an up and down player

At his age though, there's reason to suspect that the best is to come.

Persevere with him is my instinct, but don't be afraid to drop him for a month if he goes off the boil.

Ignore him. Unsurprisingly he has a hard-on for Duffy, who is currently tearing up the SPL to guide Celtic to tenth consecutive league title

When has a Webster had extended periods of awful form? He had a period in his early time here where he made a mistake a game, much like dunk used too before he matured a bit, I wouldn’t say he’s ever had any extended periods of awful form. He’s been our best defender for the last year or so, his early bad form was exaggerated by the usual muppets on here.

Exactly - that was a ridiculous comment.

Webster's 2020 was one of the few high points of the year, thankfully 2021 seems to be carrying on the same way.

Well, quite. He'll make more mistakes too, but it seems that finally the tide is beginning to turn on Webster.

According to Whoscored, he's our 4th best player on average this season (after March, Bissouma and Lamptey).

This time last year. All through December and into Jan (and for a few weeks at around the time this thread started). He was pretty bad and that's when the criticism really started a It's not all unjustified

Not villifying the bloke, there's been more good than bad, and the best is yet to come. But his progress has been far from linear

On this form, he is worth his place in the side. But he needs to keep to this level. Veltman has a strong claim to be a regular starter at centre back (clearly a much stronger CV than Webster) White will probably play the majority of his career at a higher level than Webster and so also has a strong claim for a centre back place. Burn won't think he's out of it

My opinion is Webster is slightly ahead of White at this moment, but it's tight for a place.

All the while Potter is fudging the centre back issue by playing them in midfield or full back, plus we're mostly playing 3 at the back, Webby is near assured of a place. Though If I was White, Burn or Veltman, i'd be demanding to the manager to play in my best position. Then GP has some decisions to make.
