He was offered a contract but it’s his decision to turn it down. See his interview on this thread.
That’s actually quite worrying. We do lack some ruthlessness at times, and not just in front of goal. Lallana and Milner should not be getting contract offers based on their output this season. Time catches up with us all…

I don’t think he has played 90 mins once in the last two seasons. I doubt if he has even played more than an hour in any game this season.
It’s undoubtedly the right time for him to leave (and probably retire).

Yeah, that's possible. If it was Southampton, have may have been able to commute, but much further west would've been a ballache.

Not that it's anything to do with any of us, but I wonder if the way he was in that interview the other week (can't remember the game, but it was a defeat), when he didn't come across as himself – according to some – was anything to do with it?
The Fulham game wasn't it? Very strange after match interview and maybe thought it was too much for him to keep playing at the demands Roberto sets.

Have to say, between our two Ex Anfield oldies, I would have preferred Lallana over Milner to stay. But I'lll always be more interested in who we are signing than who is going, often the latter takes cares of itself as it has with Adam

I think you might well be right. That feels like the move he’d make. Suspect he wanted the guarantee of playing time and we probably couldn’t give him that.
I think the boot was on the other foot - WE wanted him to have more playing time. Shame he is past his sell by date but it has been a privilege to see just how good you need to be to be a premiership player.

We offered him a new deal ? Sweet Jesus.

Wishing him all the best though. Pundit, coach, something totally different….He will do well at whatever he chooses. A very likeable person.

if so i could definitely see him on a one year deal back there!

reading the article though, i took him saying that he’s been away from his family for four years to mean he’s been away since he left liverpool
He kept saying 'up here' when he referenced Brighton. Maybe his family are in the Channel Islands.

Some may say it frees up a place for another wonderkid...but you can't put a price on the experience that goes with an older player. He'll be missed.
It's a shame we can't ship out some of the brain dead arseholes on this forum.....ah,well
What’s to prevent another experienced head coming in? It’s just natural cycle. No way was it sensible to renew his contract. He WAS a good player, Soton and obviously Lpool got the best from him, and we move on. Time for the next such player to join us. We’ll have someone lined up.

I think the time is right for both parties.

Almost every player that retires gets mentioned for a coaching job, how many bloody teams are there at one club?
