Apologies if this has been raised already, but was anyone else a little bit disappointed in the way he came across on the documentary tonight? Don't get me wrong, he seems like a nice enough chap, and no one can doubt his commitment to the cause. I just can't find myself feeling any empathy for his comments like 'I have a family to feed' and 'I have a mortgage to pay.' The man is a pro footballer - he does not have it hard! It's fair to say 95% of us would trade places with him in a heartbeat. I really don't know why he had to say things like that. It's great he's a local boy and a family man, but I can't help but feel a bit disappointed by some of the things he said on camera. It sounded a lot like he was trying to come accross that he's in the same struggle as the rest of us, personally I don't agree.

As we're making judgements on people, I'd like to point out that in one single post you've made yourself look like a complete pillock

first, its all in the edit, and second, he didnt say anything controversial or making out he's hard done by. just highlighting its a challenging career with alot to think about if you aren't in the big time.

It must be difficult not to babble on about anything when there's a camera in your face, the temptation to fill the silence and all that and with that in mind I thought he came across very well indeed. Appreciate what you are saying, but he did say "It's a very scary world out there" which to me was a nod to those of us in the 9-5 grind.

Slow down folks I didn't judge him, I just said I felt a bit disappointed by the way he came across in the film! Unless I'm mistaken I said I thought he was probably a nice bloke. Maybe I read it the wrong way.

No, not at all.

He may earn a good weekly wage, but when a contract is only one or two years long, it's not all rosy.

One bad injury away from the end of his career.

Exactly, he's probably earning the similar someone in a management position at a big company. That earning power is gone in about 5 years when he'll have to find another career to put food on the table for his family. He might have it better than lots of us at the moment and I'd trade places with him in a heartbeat, but that doesn't mean he has nothing to worry about and he shouldn't be concerned about how he'd make a living if he got injured tomorrow.

really?
"can't find myself feeling any empathy for his comments like 'I have a family to feed'" ... "The man is a pro footballer - he does not have it hard" ... "he was trying to come accross that he's in the same struggle as the rest of us"

i wouldnt like to see when you get judgemental about someone.

On what he's probably earning, a serious injury in the next year or two and he could be seriously f***ed in the long-term future. This is the reality of players outside The Premiership. He is not qualified to do anything else, so he is right to be fearful about what the future could hold.

This isn't the same as the likes of Wayne Rooney, who is set up for life on a month's wages.

Have to agree with that.

First you say you didn't judge him then you state you were disappointed because he was a nice bloke! Would you prefer it if he had a domestic life like John Terry or Ashley Cole.

As for being a pro footballer, that doesn't mean he is on mega bucks. Might have a reasonable salary now but don't forget he has spent most of his time in the lower leagues and would have been on a pittance when a young footballer.

He's already had some gruesome injuries and been out of the game for months on end, like last season when he had a broken foot and the game at Southampton when his thigh was sliced open.

Just three years ago, before Gus and when 90% of fans thought Adam was a pretty average to poor third division footballer probably only earning pretty low wages relative to pro footballers, I'm sure he worried about money and long term prospects quite seriously.

I for one dont begrudge AEA earning good money for one second and hope he gets a very good contract next time round. Probably one of the most deserving Albion players of a bit of financial security considering the graft he has put in.
