I thought Sheffield Wednesday were one of the dirtiest teams i have seen play in many years, they were a very physical side and how they finished with all 11 still on the pitch was down to either a miracle or biased, incompetant ref (i'm going for the second option) .

On Radio Sheffield their fans said exactly the same about us

Didnt we have this same thread a couple of years ago? started by Easy10 I think.Absolutely no need to go over it again really, is there? So Mendoza doesnt like the fact that just like other teams BHA players do cheat. Who cares? its part of the game now so get down off your high horses & get used to it

I am very surprised by how many fans just see it as "part" of the game now. I never thought it would go like that but it's fair enough I guess as it happens game after game. I highy disagree with it but its not going to change it

Id like to think that if we were a team capable o winning promotion/trophies we would do it in a fair and honest wy in the flicky flicky way we have become so good to watch under Poyet but I guess that's just a fairytale story.

There is winning ugly, but blatant cheating I still thing is embarrassing. But I'll get down off the high horse now...

Kebab only did exactly the same thing as Elding , falling down like a pansy. In the first half there was a concerted effort by the Wednesday players to even things up by trying to get Painter booked. Coming down from the Championship they know how to cheat better and get away with it. I think there are going to be lots of games this season where one of the sides are down to 9 men due to the unprofessionalism of their opponents.

Perhaps we should just say that footballers in general are a total embarrassment?

Imagine the sort of scenario you get outside pubs and clubs every weekend, where two morons square up after one over the eight. One of them pushes the other in the chest, who promptly clutches his face and rolls over. You would never, ever live it down.

Personally I didn't see yesterday's incident, so I don't know how bad it was, and although I was at Withdean last week I wasn't close enough to see the Greer thing either. But- and if this is taking the moral high ground then so be it, I'm happy with that- it is a tremendously sad state of affairs that it is considered acceptable to dive around- in fact let's call it what it is, cheating- simply because "everyone else does it".

Half the people commenting on this probably have children. When your kids pick up swear words at school "because all the other kids do it", do you tell them that makes it alright and to keep on doing it? It's not alright, and nor is the constant sight of footballers blatantly cheating on the pitch.

It's also insulting to officials, in that it implies they aren't capable enough of spotting a push or a punch without the shambolic amateur dramatics. Absolute rubbish, as they quite regularly manage to spot "normal" fouls or slight shirt tugs without the assistance of some overpaid tart flinging himself to the floor. If I was a referee, the sort of clear cut exaggeration that we so regularly see from players today would actually make me LESS likely to give a decision, not more, because there would be a question over both players' honesty.

I want us to win, sure, but I'd also like us to have some vague semblance of decency while we do it. Who knows, if referees were under the impression that we were actually a relatively honest team, they might be more inclined to give us the benefit of the doubt, not less.

But just how much money is at stake with kids swearing, football however is a multimillion pond sport nowadays and teams have to do anything and everything they can to succeed, usually whatever the level, be it to try to get into the Chamions League, stay or get promoted to the Premier League, etc... I would like to think that there wouldn't be the current level of theatrics in the game if it wasn't for the amount of money involved, but while there is, it will continue.

If a player tries to stay on their feet and carry on after been fouled, there is a chance that the chance will be gone and the incident goes unpunished, how many times have you watched a game and the commentry say something similar to 'had they gone down it would have been a penalty'.

If they went down, the ref is forced to make a decision and if they were clearly being fouled, then its will be punished so its in the interest of the team to gain the benefits rather than the team who committed the foul getting away with cheating.

I want us to win, sure, but I'd also like us to have some vague semblance of decency while we do it. Who knows, if referees were under the impression that we were actually a relatively honest team, they might be more inclined to give us the benefit of the doubt, not less.

I don't think that refs are influenced that much by a teams reputation, it comes down to whether the officials see the incident or not, I also wonder how many times the officials make their decisions on the aftermath of an incident (player roling on the floor etc..) and player / crowd reactions rather than by witnessing the incident in question. Therefore the theatrics actually make sure that fouls etc are spotted and correctly punished.

Surely there wouldn't be the need for the ott reactions if there weren't the fouls in the first place, such as raising your hands and pushing other players, etc.. that should be stamped out so that there isn't the need for the exaggerations

I will probably get flamed for this, i dont like slagging players off, but El Abd is a total embarrassment.

There is absolutely no place in football for PATHETIC cheating trying to get a fellow player sent off.

He is built like a brick shit house, he gets shoved in the chest and goes down holding his eye, and rolls around like a little girl. Then to call on the physio to treat his "injury" was just ridiculous.

No need for it, ridiculous behavior like this needs to be eradicated from the game, especially our club as we try to attract fans going into Falmer

For being such a pathetic embarrassment he should be suspended by the club. I know we are short of centre backs but he needs to be made an example of as it's not the first time he's done it.

El Abd disgraced himself, should have been booked, and therefore sent off when he took out Mellor later on in the first half

Rant over

Mellor still should've got sent off, deliberate and intentional with two hands directed straight at him. Alright he went down like a sack of potatoes but let's be honest, who hasn't!?

El-Abd, in my honest opinion, was the best player on that pitch with him and Elphick partnering up beautifully.

Ridiculous comments.

If someone fouls one of our players or gives them a slap, I WANT our player to go down otherwise the cheat is getting away with it.

There is a difference between DIVING and just letting the ref know you have been fouled.

I agree with you

Mellor should have gone if Greer and Sparrow incidents were to go by.

As I said before I think El Abd has been playing well which makes it even more cringe worthy what he did

His theatrics maybe what saved Mellor from getting a red

it seems that every team we play are saying that we are dirty, and it is a hard argument to overcome when you look at our disciplinary record this season so far

I can't agree with wanting players to fall over

I kind of think what El Abd did is the same as diving. He didn't get pushed anyway near hard enough to fall over. Especially getting pushed on the chin as El Abd is claiming

It was a fall to con the ref in my opinion. Is that the same as a dive? That's maybe open to debate...

I think Adam will feel very embarrassed when he sees the highlights. Yes he was shoved, but the reaction was pathetic.

If one of our players is fouled, I want him to go down unless he has an open goal infront of him and can definitely score. Otherwise, the cheat wins.

Diving in my book is when there has not been a foul but you PRETEND there has been.

I see in today's Argus that El Abd is singing off Poyet's hymn sheet ie blaming the ref....just as I predicted on another thread this would happen.

Just watched the highlights on Seagulls player.

Mellor can be clearly seen pushing with both hands in the CHEST. No contact whatsoever with El-Abd's face or neck. However Adam falls over holding his face.

Well done Adam, did you go to Drama School?

El-Abd ended up on the deck in his own goalmouth after being shoved by Mellor in an off-the-ball incident.

Mellor escaped with a booking but El-Abd said: "He pushed me on the chin. It was both hands. If you raise your hands, you should be off. The referee must have seen it because he booked him. It’s either nothing or a red card."

Hmmm. Well AEA certainly made sure the ref saw it I suppose. He's massively exagerrated the incident so as to draw attention to it, in the hope of getting the guy sent off. I suppose its understandable - but is it really acceptable ?

Personally I can't stand seeing this kind of thing. It makes me cringe. I mean look at the arms, he's doing a full-on PLATOON jobbie there.
