I don't really understand all the technical bits and bobs to computers - I know what I want to use one for but not which spec would do the job for me.

Is there any website where you can answer some general questions about the type of use you might want, and it gives a rough idea of the sort of spec that might be best suited?

I have just got this month Computer Shopper - after I bought the lap top - it probaly makes a interesting read.

However, it reviews seem good, it breakes down a lot of the compenents and overall may help/

Typing on an old ACER Aspire 5630, been dropped and dragged around the country for the past two years and been very reliable. Runs Vista and is full of recordings both muisc and DVD and only just starting to creak.

It was from PC world and was bought because it offered higher spec than the Sony type brands. I am not knowledgeable on PC stuff but imagine all the stock sold in these enviorments is built for mass market so you get what you pay for, I would think upgrading this model or trying to game on it would not be advisable. But it does what I need from it, wireless internet access is easy, streams video.

I need to buy a new laptop and want good speed, memory and visuals but I am struggling to find one for my buisness that is not a gaming or home entertainment one. Was going for this but it has sold out, I liked the idea of HD images and TV reciever built in

Certainly looks like a lovely bit of kit doesn't it.

I can't realistically afford to push the boat out that far so was looking at this model instead. Acer Aspire 8930G-584G32Bn Gemstone Blue Laptop LX.AC20X.039 - Acer Products | Acer Direct.co.uk

Obviously the graphics card and processor aint as good but seems to be good enough to do all we want it to do ( it won't really be used for high demand gaming ). It seems to have all the features we want for a reasonable price compared to other makes.

Yes I'm lucky as this laptop can be written off against my TAX and VAT, so I want something that will last another 2 years or so again.

I am amazed that laptops over £500 don't have 500GB memorys although lots of people have external back up these days, I am interested in the HD feature as I have to play lots of media clips for my work.
