He took us to 13th in the old First Division (now Premiership) with boring football, but the crowds dropped off, and he was sacked.

Time will tell if Gus is better. Bailey had achieved more, which is why he got the job.

Brighton fans demand to be entertained.
Yes I know . The season he was sacked we were superb at home but away form got him sacked. We were well clear of relegation tHough. Jimmy Melia replaced him and as much as I loved him and the fantastic cup run we went down.

lol now why did i know that was coming

lol, just stating a fact my friend. Just stating a fact. I don't mind saying Gus has done well at this football club, not at all. I don't think he has done anymore than any manager worth his salt would have done, but fair play he has done it. But some of the hero worship on the site is just staggering and totally out of proportion with what he has really achieved........so far!!!!

He gets my praise for:

Winning League 1 in his first full season
Achieving a good position in a tough Championship the following season
Bringing in some top quality players this season to push for promotion

I wouldn't bother, to be honest. You are not allowed to rate Gus as you will be shouted down by the anti crowd. Apparently, if you think any of those are achievements that a normal person from the streets could not have done, you are just hero worshipping Gus.

As for today, I really hope we win as I dread to think what it will be like on here if we don't.

Push for promotion?..No win in ten league games and no goals in christ knows how long?....Win well today and all will be rosy in the garden. But scrape a result, draw or heaven forbid lose against a team who many see as one of the weaker sides and questions will have to be answered, especially if we fire blanks again.

The sad thing is, I think there are a fair number of people on here who want us to draw/lose today so they can enjoy slating Gus.

People can rate Gus all they like. But to start spouting him as Brighton's greatest ever manager, is just total crap and makes people look stupid.

What the BBC also says is that Barnsley have 10 of their first team squad injured. We'll get our season going today, totally confident of that

if thats a fact, then we better get a result or its not going to be looking good...

I'm quite afraid today might be a "Burnley"...just got a feeling...anyone know who the ref is?

To be fair, I think we could have won both our games so far, i'm not concerned about the way we are playing and I do think we will win today. The two things that concern me most, is the lack of firepower and the problem we seem to have getting someone in(and I don't buy this wages crap for a second, take a look around) and this ongoing Vicente niggle. Something just doesn't add up, I think he could be more trouble than he is worth and if he is sitting there on big money it could cause problems in the camp.

One thing's for sure, if we fail it will be a real test of Gus's temperament and management cability

I don't dispute we need a striker although from the reaction of some on here, you would think that Gus does not realise this. With Vicente, I am hopeful he will have fully recovered after the international break, if not before, and we will see the best of him again. Having seen the first two league games with Buckley out and Vicente only playing 10 minutes, I am confident we will have a decent season and, if we get a striker, a great season.

I know Gus realise's we need a striker. But for whatever reason he does not seem able to get one, this is a worry.

I had an idea when all the stuff was going on pre season that he was "forced" back here. It was only a worry but the manifestation of it would have been that as soon as the season started then his injury's would return until such time as we waved the white flag, called it quits and he could go home. In that respect the sooner he starts playing and proving my doubts wrong, the better

This.....I know i'm an old synic, but I just don't trust a guy who has played two dozen games in the last five years, sorry!!! And he is on big bucks as well, perhaps if Gus had put as much effort into finding a striker as he does blowing sunshine up Vicente's arse we might score some goals.

Fair comment - we really messed up at the end of last season and IMHO it started with a poor performance and somewhat strange tactics away at Burnley.

The footie has been entertaining and more adventurous in the first couple of league games but if I hear GP start winging again about 'Quality' if we don't get a good result I will not be happy. He didn't winge about quality at the beginning of last season and it's starting to sound like a broken record.

I'm pretty sure nobody on this thread has said that. You're arguing with nobody in an effort to voice your opinion.
