Presumably one of the '2' in a 4-2-3-1, or one of the 'Central 2 of 4' in a 3-4-3.

Which would seem to be 1 of Pröpper or Stephens.

.....meaning we'll have 4 decent players for 2 positions once Bissouma is back, without even considering Alzate who looks like making the squad. Perfect.

When you consider the number of Hudds fans on their forum saying he's the greatest player ever to pull on their shirt, that ought to tell you something.

Mooy is one of those rare players who are capable of controlling the game. He didn't do it so much last year - for reasons that others have raised - but he is pure quality. Very comfortable holding the ball, brilliant passing range, superb vision, outstanding dead ball delivery and ferocious tackler. I sat close to the fence when Australia played France last year in Russia and Mooy completely bossed the midfield against Pogba and Kante. His tackle on Griezmann in the first ten minutes was stunning (must be YouTube-able).

Also, he is a lot faster than the fans seem to think - wins a lot of ball and moves just as fast as he has to.

Be excited if you get him. I believe I said the same thing about Mat Ryan.

The squad gets solider and solider.

Come match day, there may be a few sad players.

When the team is announced, we'll be saying 'ooh, what a bench' and 'blimey, what quality we have not even in the squad today'.

Guessing the line up might will be a nightmare.

Aron Mooy 7 goals in 65 games.

Solly March 2 in 71
Stephens 1 in 66
Propper 1 in 65
Kayal 1 in 37
Knockaert 5 in 63
Locadia 3 in 32
Izqueirdo 5 in 50
Gross 10 in 63

People questioning whether 7 in 65 from central midfield isn't good in the PL!?

Great signing.

Less than Gros (10 in 63) over two years in the PL. And he will have spent a lot more time in the opposition half than either Propper or Stephens.

Huddersfield scored 6 less goals than us when they stayed up, and 13 goals less than us when they went down. He spent more time in the opposition half...I don't think so. He played centre midfield in a Propper like role.

Great signing.

So he has a better scoring record than Knocky, from a less attacking position, in an even crappier side ? And people are underwhelmed with the signing ?:shrug:

Seven goals in 65 in the PL. Hmmm ................. not that prolific, eh?

There's something to be said for having a threat of goals about you as it keeps defenders on their toes. With Stephens / Propper the Prem defenders know they're not looking to go past them and shoot - there's an air of predictability about it, so Mooy will give us something different.

As for 7 in 65 with Huddersfield, they were a very poor side and if you put him in a mid-table side that becomes 11 or 12 goals in 65.

Great signing.

Considering his position on the pitch and heatmaps, he is most comparable to Gross in that list. And I'm almost certain he took their penalties.

I'm not saying he's a bad signing, I think he will certainly strengthen our squad and give more choices in CM with Kayal likely moving on.

Trying to amend history and suggesting he is a free scoring midfielder though and a significant upgrade on what we have is absurd, he wouldn't have scored anywhere near as many goals if deployed in CH's rigid formation.

The biggest irony is people suggesting he will replace Stephens, when Mooy doesn't really play that role.
