After reading through the comments and reminiscing, I distinctly remember a large majority nominating him as an early candidate for Player of the Season. It was only after signing that it all went downhill, was very bizarre...

No gripes, just means some youth can move up into the squad/position I.e. Molumby, Alzate, Mac Allister etc.

Pre January he was a cracker. Thereafter, seemed to get squeezed out tactically by opposition and tired rapidly. Maybe he knew what was around the corner.

Agreed, problem is that you can count his good games last season on one hand, we need better from experienced players, he’s not going to get better imo. I’m sure others will follow him out as well.

I'd be surprised if we have any more 'didn't see that coming' this window.

3) Shanghai made an offer out of the blue, which was too good for both parties to refuse

I suspect number 3 happened... but with 1 and 2 coming into play once it was on the table.

Spot on, agree 3 is the scenario.

Mooy doesn’t seem the kind to put up any fuss at being left out, he’d have got on with the season either way.

Terrific business if true, I’d even sell him to Leeds for that.

He must've specifically wanted to go to china to have a release clause inserted only for Chinese clubs. Looking from his perspective would have been limited game time this season, probably on much higher wages and is closer to home. From our perspective.. probably wasn't a player we can't afford to lose, apparently was one of the top earners so frees up wages, and £4m towards any future signings.
