Quite simply, every social media account should be linked to an identity. It doesn't need to be publically available, but it should be available to the company so when abusive behaviour (and worse) takes place, they can report it to the relevant authorities who can then take the necessary actions. There is no excuse or justification for it.

Jesus that's unbelievable ... wait a minute there are even people on NSC (so assume they are mainly BHAFC fans) saying how sh*t he is and that is unnecessary abuse.

The lad is 21 still learning and probably terrified of making a mistake due to some previous misses. He's not sh*t or he wouldn't have got this far. Is he good enough ? Time will tell .

More importantly we need to support him because we don't have a lot of other options...

The abuse is horrible and the club did well checking on him. For someone in his position deleting his account is probably a good thing, well known people only seem to get s**t on there which is depressing in itself.

Frustrates me so much about people in every fan base. Ruins his confidence completely ffs.

How can you blame Connolly for a great block? With hindsight you could say “well, what he should’ve done was...” but if anyone thinks they could’ve done better in the moment they’re deluded.

Think how stupid the average person is, and remember 50% of everyone is stupider than that.

If his shot had been as easy as Maupay's against Leeds and he had missed, people could moan, but it was a good defensive block.

In hindsight he could have paused, chipped etc, but by the same hindsight we would have won the cup in 83.

Striker is a position where apart from the truly exceptional, (Rooney, Owen, Rashford) etc, hardly any are prolific at the top level until they are 23+

Kane, DCL, Bamford were all written off at that age

Salah got shipped from Chelsea. Lebandowski nearly went to Blackburn Gnabry couldn't get in the Stoke side

Vardy and Callum Wilson were well down the leagues at that age

I could probably think of loads of strikers who came good at around 23.

It's just a position where you need to learn harsh lessons to improve... like he just did tonight.

Every minute Aaron plays is an investment in his future

There's no guarantee he'll make it .... but to me it looks as if the ingredients are there

I agree. I like Aaron, he is a very busy player, he makes excellent runs and can be a real pain to defend. If you look at the goals he has scored they are pretty decent and have more than their fair share of quality. He'll be as disappointed with the miss as we are and he'll learn from it. To hear he has got dogs abuse on twitter is just outrageous, that site can be an absolute toilet.

You'd hope that the extensive social media training they have will inform them that such sites are full of idiots and don't take a single thing to heart.

But the fingers in ears celebration said to me that it has affected him.

The fact that a disgraceful thread title about him on here was allowed to be kept the same (whilst a Ryan one was changed) wasn't great

Considering you gave a thumbs up to this one from junior - https://nortr3nixy.nimpr.uk/show...efully-the-end-of-Connolly&highlight=connolly - what is your identity?

Yup. No one should have any type of social media tbh. When I become the dictator of the world, I'm shutting down the internet. Maybe I'll leave NSC up. Maybe.

I really hope some of the players don't read NSC because of the stuff said about them on here... but I'm confident they do, which is why I always try to be positive with my comments.

We are entitled to criticise players on this forum, as long as it's criticism of their abilities rather than anything personal.

This is different to Twitter though. Twitter is a direct form of communication, directed at that person with a distinct possibility of them reading it. Even something mild like "Connolly, you're rubbish" on Twitter is totally unacceptable, whereas saying that "Connolly is rubbish" on here is fair enough.

I don't think Connolly is rubbish - but I often question whether he will cut the mustard - and I have no problem with him reading that. AC - if you're reading this, prove me wrong!

Disagree with the alleged difference, its the same shit. Pub talk put in public. Dumb shit, especially when its about a fecking 20 year old making his second season in senior football. You'd think at least so called Brighton supporters would support him but no, plenty of people always throwing him to the sharks.

You'd hope that the extensive social media training they have will inform them that such sites are full of idiots and don't take a single thing to heart.

Yup. Guessing they agreed with juniors opinion. GBs argument for not changing the title, "It its allowed on Twitter, why shouldnt it be allowed here?" as if Twitter is some great ****ing role model everyone needs to follow when it comes to non-destructive non-abusive digital communication. Apparently saying "all cops are ********" are worthy of a ban while slagging off a young player playing for the club, saying "never want to see him again" and thus inviting to bullying and abusing him is supposedly something worth banning in the name of free speech or whatever myth the mods hid behind in that situation.

Did it still not get changed?

Looks even worse after today’s news.

Yes, it was a bit like that 'And Smith must score' moment - striker didn't do a lot wrong, and a defender made a great block.

Shame that scum out there think that was worth such vile abuse that the young man had to take his Twitter page down (although if I was drafting young players' contracts they wouldn't have Twitter accounts at all, but that's another discussion!)

........... and yes, that NSC thread title bloody well should be changed!

a) genuinely no idea what thread you are talking about, and somewhat resent the Implication that NSC is somehow complicit in whatever is going on.

b) as far as I can see there have been no reports on any such thread, which doesn't really help if there is something untoward knocking about.

There is more than a whiff of the "ashley barnes isn't good enough" bullsh*t about this ...

It was an immense block by Aldeweireld, par with or better than Dunk's against Fulham (although that was awesome too).

the kid is going to deliver, if his progress is managed right

It was this one, I think - there are several requests in the thread for the title to be changed:

https://nortr3nixy.nimpr.uk/show...-the-end-of-Connolly&highlight=aaron+connolly

Although actually I think the thread title has been slightly softened - I think it was originally more offensive.

I think they are referring to this thread - Hopefully the end of Connolly

This is the opening post (liked 16 times):-

He really is absolute pony. How many goals has he scored now? 3? He's leauge 1 level. Can't think of anyone more shit than him since Leon Best.

He's 2 foot from goal and the ball is on a plate for Welbeck and he blunders his way in and manages to backwards header it in the opposite direction to goal.

He didn't miss the target but should have buried it.
I'm glad the club's social media department have acted decisively.
Ever since football has been around the fans have given players stick. It's part of the game and always will be. In the past it was shouted from the terraces but now social media and the internet has given everyone a voice that can be detrimental to some players.
Barnes, Stephens and now Connolly have all come in for prolonged abuse from their club's supporters, I hope it doesn't have a negative effect on him.

The difference is - what you get from the fans is over in a moment. A bit like in hte ground during the Sheff Utd game. With social media it is exaggerated and hangs around for hours / days.

The flip side I guess is Aaron reacts to it and in the past has played up to it a bit which doesn't help - but he is a very young lad and I cringe when I think what I was like on social media as a teenager so difficult one.

Also players are so much aware of the possibilities of social media and tie ups with brands, sponsors etc. So he probably 'needs' to be on it, but not what goes with it.

Personally if I was him I'd turn off all comments on Instagram, and set Twitter to only see tweets from people I follow. All available and configurable now

I'm shocked that people are criticising Aaron for the brilliant goal line stop.

I , like most Albion fans, had their head in hands when it happened but he did most things right. Having played up front for over 15 years , at a much lower level of football, I know that things happen in a split second . Had he lifted the ball it might have sailed over , had he taken a touch he might have miscontrolled and the chance be gone. He kept his head over the ball and drilled it low and hard and on target.

I am sure that if the law stated that the hosting company were liable for fines of £millions for this if they could not identify the abuser, they would soon find a way to identify them.
