Brighton & Hove Albion striker Aaron Connolly has completed a loan move to Luton Town until the end of the season, but will only join up with the League One leaders once he has fully recovered from his injury.

The 19-year-old, who signed a new long-term contract with the Albion earlier today, had to complete the necessary paperwork before tonight’s 11pm transfer deadline.

Connolly is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury, and will continue his rehabilitation at the American Express Elite Football Performance Centre.

He will still be eligible to play for Albion’s under-23s, and is expected to feature in the Premier League 2 before he links up with Luton.

Albion under-23 coach Simon Rusk said, “This agreement gives Aaron the prospect of a first loan spell playing senior first-team football in League One.

“It is potentially a great move for him, but what is most important is that he is not rushed back from his current injury.

“Our medical staff at the club will work with him to get him fully up to speed, and then we will look at him playing for our under-23s in order to get him up to match fitness.

“Once we are satisfied that he is fit and up to speed, he will then join up Luton, and have the opportunity help them in their promotion push.”
