I agree, for a brief peroiod he was the only player we had who would just nip in and get a touch, like Marray, didn't have to be a worldies, just enough to deflect it in . . . More goal scoring instinct than Maupay IMO. However, he's completely lost his way . . . . If he's intelligent enough, which I doubt, he needs to listen, keep his head down and concentrate on his personal management as well as his football development.
Agree - he hasn't exactly helped himself (except to his £20K a week or however much wages, of course, and a £20K a week sort of GF) but his development has been mismanaged too.
He should have been sent out on loan years ago, whether he liked it or not. Whether he actualy refused to go out on loan, or just argued against it, there was a time when he should have been told to get on with it (even if we did miss out on the pleasure of him dumping Tottingham in the dirty in that one game).
And last season, sending him to a team chasing promotion, with very high expectations - even though they didn't score many goals or create many chances - was a disaster - much better if he'd gone to League 1 (or even League 2) and re-discovered his edge and been in contention for their POTS. That didn't happen, so IMHO it'll have to happen now - now that he's developed a bit of a reputation and has some failures behind him. 2/3 years ago he'd have arrived at a League 1 or 2 club and they'd be buzzing - now it'll be, 'Oh gawd, another loanee who's flopped everywhere else' - not quite the same fanfare or positivity now; a harder job for the young man.
