I agree, for a brief peroiod he was the only player we had who would just nip in and get a touch, like Marray, didn't have to be a worldies, just enough to deflect it in . . . More goal scoring instinct than Maupay IMO. However, he's completely lost his way . . . . If he's intelligent enough, which I doubt, he needs to listen, keep his head down and concentrate on his personal management as well as his football development.

Agree - he hasn't exactly helped himself (except to his £20K a week or however much wages, of course, and a £20K a week sort of GF) but his development has been mismanaged too.
He should have been sent out on loan years ago, whether he liked it or not. Whether he actualy refused to go out on loan, or just argued against it, there was a time when he should have been told to get on with it (even if we did miss out on the pleasure of him dumping Tottingham in the dirty in that one game).
And last season, sending him to a team chasing promotion, with very high expectations - even though they didn't score many goals or create many chances - was a disaster - much better if he'd gone to League 1 (or even League 2) and re-discovered his edge and been in contention for their POTS. That didn't happen, so IMHO it'll have to happen now - now that he's developed a bit of a reputation and has some failures behind him. 2/3 years ago he'd have arrived at a League 1 or 2 club and they'd be buzzing - now it'll be, 'Oh gawd, another loanee who's flopped everywhere else' - not quite the same fanfare or positivity now; a harder job for the young man.

As above.

He's 22.
Ferguson will be on loan.
unWelbeck seemingly staying.
5 substitutions allowed.
The club unlikely to buy an Alpha Dog #1 striker.

So basically the battle for 'unused sub' is between Connolly and Zeqiri.

If I were you I wouldn't be throwing my toys out in June, when you're quite likely to have months of opportunities ahead.
We're Just A Team Full Of Strikers :

Welbeck

Maupay

Undav

Andone

Zeqiri

Ferguson

Sima

....

Connolly

Christ homesick, I had a family to support at near enough that age Caicedo came to a foreign country to play his football and he’s two years younger. No wonder he never grows up if people keep wiping his arse.

Why on earth would he feel homesick at Middlesbrough, when he doesn't seem to have had any problem moving from Ireland to Brighton at the age of 16?

So how come he doesn't feel homesick, hundreds of miles from home, on £20K or £30K a week at Brighton? Never mind him blocking some other youngster from the U23 team - a random northern outpost is exactly what he needs at the moment, with no options but to travel 'home' on the team bus with the rest of the team rather than (allegedly) buggering off 'home' to Brighton on his own.
Ross County or Inverness Caley Thistle would be my choices (or maybe somewhere like Rochdale or Bradford would be far enough). Re-learn how to score goals and have a decent career - or don't. Apparantly the Lucinda option is no longer available; that might help.

I must've touched a nerve, perhaps homesick was the wrong interpretation to use, maybe missing a temporary home environment he was used to at the academy:shrug:

And you still put him begind Zeqiri (whose loan has been about as successful as Connolly's)?....... and it's not as if Sima's done anything yet either .........Oh well ......

...........and I'm still just waiting for JRG to come swanning along to tell us that Connolly (and Ferguson) are behind a couple of 17 year olds in Leyton Orient's U18s, a lad from Cobh Rangers and a couple more still playing barefoot with jumpers for goalposts in Galway in the Irish yoof strikers pecking order!

To be clear, you want me to name his barber, name my friend who runs the pub he goes in, name the people at work who’ve told me things about him out on the town? Do you want me to PM them to you? Can you tell me what this will achieve, seeing as you will have no idea who they are? Upon seeing these names, will you then think ‘Ah OK he’s right, these random names I’ve never heard of have proved the point’?

I still don’t think you understand the point. They’re not ‘anonymous sources’ they’re real people who I know, and so do other people. And there are loads of other examples that other people here have given. I saw AC on Thursday in Ditchling, as I regularly do. Is it really that hard to believe? I used to bump into Connor Goldson sometimes in Haywards Heath as well, he lived on one of the new build estates here. Him and Sam Baldock used to drink in Orange Square in HH on Saturdays when they were out injured and weren’t travelling with the squad. So did Duffy. Never heard any issues about them. Dean Cox’s parents live opposite me, Dean used to send his kids to the same school as mine and did some football coaching for them. My friend was out drinking with Bruno and Ulloa on Thursday. Someone on Facebook put a picture of him and Ulloa in a kebab shop at 3am in fact. It’s so bizarre how you think it is completely impossible for anybody on NSC to have every had any direct or indirect dealings with AC. Do you think he lives in a cave or something? Sussex is a small place and footballers go to restaurants, they go to shops, they get their hair cut, they buy houses from estate agents, they pick up their kids from school.

Do you honestly, genuinely think that all these people who have had dealings with AC are all lying? A big conspiracy to prove something that isn’t true to some weird Swedish bloke on the internet? How likely does that sound? You need to ease up on the weed mate.

When you live in the areas where the players do you tend to see them.

For example I'm living in Chichester and sometimes see Adam Webster as he lives here. In fact my driving instructor starts people off on the road he lives on.

When players attract more headlines for what they get up to off the pitch than on, then it's time to go.
I liked Connolly as a player, but he's not taking it seriously enough and will not reach his potential. Time
to find something else.

Off to Série B with newly relegated Venezia on loan?

I think he’s gone for the ice cream!

A totally new culture and environment might be good for the lad. I'll wish him well if he does go. I didn't get every decision right at that age myself

Be excellent for all parties if so.

Get him away from the media in the UK and the temptations here that hopefully gives him a new lease of life and a kickstart ot his career. Of course he can fall into the same old same old, over there, but different country, different culture and hiopefully a kick @rse manager that will get him into mental shapre, will get him upto his potential (whatever that maybe)

Time for the 22 year old boy to decide if he wants to knuckle down and act like a professional footballer or if he wants to be all washed up by the age of 23. His call

Would be a good move for all concerned, would rather a loan because the lad could yet come good and it’d be a pittance fee for a transfer anyway. Wishing him all the best - if he knocks in 25+ goals give him a look again next pre-season.
