[Sussex] A27 Route Decision Delayed .... again!

Originally a decision was due in Feb '18, then Spring and now Summer!

That said, of course, this has been rolling on for 30 years now .... meanwhile the only people it suits is those who prefer to do nothing but fail to come up with solutions to a very obvious problem.

It's been more than 20 years since the building came to a very abrupt halt at Crossbush.

We're talking about the main East - West road across the south of England. Just a complete shambles.

Wasn't this abandoned due to the cost which by now will have risen considerably. A dual carriageway/motorway is needed as originally planned from Folkestone to Honiton linking up with existing dual carriageways and motorways.

Isn't the problem that there are two proposed routes; the people living in north chichester want the southern one and vice versa.

I believe, although am happy to be wrong, there's also a problem with how congestion is registered.

Isn't it the case that the A27 isn't actually 'congested' because the traffic does move.
Sure it only moves at 2 mph, but because that's considered moving, the A27 isn't a high enough priority for massive central funding.

An Arundel bypass will be useless for many unless they REALLY tackle the problem at Chichester and Worthing rather than just patching the odd roundabout here and there.

Absolutely, the current Arundel Relief Road isn't coping and causing unnecessary pollution and increasing journey times whilst also serving to force people to rat run and use routes through our Downsland towns, villages and hamlets, such as Storrington, Houghton and many others

An Arundel bypass will be useless for many unless they REALLY tackle the problem at Chichester and Worthing rather than just patching the odd roundabout here and there.

There are three areas with strategic plans, Worthing, Arundel and Chichester. If we wait for all three to fall in line it'll never happen and play into the hands of the NIMBY's, we need to solve one and then solve the others. Arundel is in line first and the most problematic, Chichester had a chance but blew it by creating divisions between previously united groups, I believe.

They are not talking of such a comparatively small amount as I am sure I read the cost is about £10m per mile taking into account buying land and building the road etc.

Easy solution there! Build a superhighway through Chichester city centre itself. A dual carriageway with three lanes in each direction. What about the cathedral you say? Simple - westbound on south side, eastbound on the north. What about pedestrians? Well - they’ll just have to be careful where they walk or they’ll get squished, rather messy but hey that’s progress.

So all in all that’ll please all the nimby buggers on the north and south side of the city. As for shopping? Well they’ll all have to bugger off to Bognor to do that. Beggars can’t be choosers!

To the likes of you and me that is a lot of money but to the DOT and government in general it is just a drop in the ocean of high finance.
