I have that book - I've lived at both ends (in Haywards Heath & Winchester)!Downloaded Penguin said:What about the big one: the A272. This road is notable for having an entire book dedicated to it: "A272: An Ode to a Road" by Pieter Boogaart, which became something of a minor cult and even inspired a TV programme.
Indeed - I went to VI form college there. Quality pubs, loads of history. I even lost my cherry in Winchester Cathedral grounds.Dr Breakfast said:You lived in Winchester too?
Isn't it lovely? Splendid little city. Or at least it was until they kept tearing up the countryside for endless roads and car parks.
I camped out in protest of the destruction of our butterfly meadows but, alas, they are nothing but car park now.
I did indeed. Quite liked the Exchange myself although my preference was The Vine in those days. Whereabouts did you live then? We lived up on Chilbolton Avenue - a handy 10 minute walk into town.Dr Breakfast said:You went to Symonds?
Not wrong about the pubs and the history, although there is a worrying trend of replacing the quality old historic pubs with posh bar/restaurants. But the Exchange is still there so it's not all bad.

Besides, who wants to go to Worthing?
