A friend of mine who is a director at the club has advised me, we are trying to sign Francis Jeffers on loan. He currently cant get a game for charlton and his career has gone Pete Tong. Definately a possibility we will get him too. Thoughts please, would you want him?

Ex Albion manager Alan Mullery revealed at a corporate event this morning that ex England and Liverpool superstar Kevin Keegan,

But when it was revealed Keegan would require £1m a year or around £21,000 per week, vice chairman Harry Bloom decided along With Mullery, that as the Albion were paying other top players less than £250 per week basic salary the deal just would not work.

I very much doubt Keegan would have wanted £1m a year in 1980. Not even sure the gross income of the club was as high as that. Some of these stories grow taller with the telling. According to the PFA history, only eight players in Division One were earning £50,000 a year at that time. I think I once read he was on an annual £100k at Hamburg before endorsements.

That seems to be around the "mark". There are references to Keegan saying in interviews he was being paid around that amount which was still quite obscene for the time.
