The missus and I are due a sprog any day now and are putting together a time capsule for the baby's 18th.

So far we have:

4 CD's from this year
2 DVD's
1 Book

We're also going to include papers from the day it is born, the NME from that week and a programme from the nearest Brighton game.

What do you consider synonomous with 2007 that you would include?

How about some digital pictures of the people and the area where you live, nothing too serious, just everyday stuff.

You may wish to include a cd/dvd player, as in 18 years such things may be hard to come by!

Should you include a CD Player and a DVD Player?
Occurs to me that had someone done a similar thing 18 years ago they would have included a vinyl disc and a Video Tape and that today the 18 year old may not have the wherewithall to listen to / watch them.

CD and DVD are stable formats - plus you can still get vinyl players and VHS decks (and VHS had won by 1989...) so I don't think it'll be needed. You'll still be able to get optical drives for PCs, thats for sure, and to date they've been 100% backwards compatible.

Bizarrely... our eldest daughter was 18 yesterday! and we opened a box we had put together 18 years ago.

We included newspapers, various medical paperwork from her birth, the BBC news and sports reviews of the year (on VHS), girls and fashion magazines, Habitat and Argos catalogs, the cards and letters we received when she was born etc...

It's been great fun going through it and remembering stuff long forgotten.

I would definitely recommend it.

:)

that is an excellent idea - maybe the family in front of the house or something like that!

Now thats what might be hard to read in 18 years time! Not the files but whatever you store them on. JPEG and GIF will last forever (GIF is 20 already)

We have done a time capsule for all of our children as well. I was just putting things aside for the newest babies ones.

The public smoking ban. A photo of you and your wife (black and white). The receipt from the weeks shopping/list of how much a loaf of bread/pint of milk/petrol etc is. The new Wembley being new. The blue moon.

I can't think of anything more.

A pic of you and the missuss dressed in the fashion of today - whatever that is for you - our son finds it hard to believe how Mrs I. and I looked and dressed when he was born. It's good comedy value as far as he is concerned.
